The Biscuit Eater is a friendly community cafe and bookstore serving homemade, handmade goodness in Mahone Bay's oldest building. Fresh baked buttermilk biscuits, locally roasted coffee, stacks of cookies and baked treats, delicious soups, sandwiches and
Sometimes we Canadians are too polite and just donât want to cause a fuss. I should have yesterday, after my visit to the Biscuit Eater Cafe and Books for breakfast. My friend and I were looking for breakfast and found a number of places were closed Monday in Mahone Bay. We both ordered the basic breakfast with a biscuit. We both requested eggs OVER EASY and I stressed that when I placed my order. The person who took the order clearly wrote that on the order as I saw it. We waited at least half an hour for our food despite the fact we were the only table without food when we arrived and ordered. People at two other tables had clearly finished eating. When our meals arrived, the bacon and eggs were both cold and SERIOUSLY over cooked. The potatoes were nicely roasted, but also cold. Other people had arrived after us and were placing orders so I expect our breakfasts were ready long before they were delivered. Now, eggs are a very basic breakfast item. If you are going to work in a kitchen and give customers a choice as to how they would like their eggs cooked, you better be able to deliver. There was no excuse for the quality of the food we received. The one redeeming factor was the generous biscuit with butter and jam. The biscuits were delicious and the jam tasted homemade. So, next time I am not happy with the quality of food I receive, I will still be polite, but I will explain my displeasure so it can be rectified. We are so sorry to hear that you had such a disappointing breakfast with us and you are absolutely right that we often suffer from being overly polite. You are also right that eggs are a basic, and important breakfast item. We are in the process of training new staff and unfortunately it sounds as though your breakfast was not up to our usual standard. I also wish you had let us know so that we could have fixed the problems and had you leave happy instead of disappointed. Please accept our apologies and an offer to refund the cost of your breakfast if you would like to reach out to us at [email protected] If you happen to travel to Mahone Bay again please do give us another chance to make you some delicious food. Thanks so much for your feedback

The restaurant was nice and in a nice area. The staff were friendly, but the food wasn't really good.Hi there, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your food. Did you mention to your server that you were unhappy? We train our staff to to immediately offer another menu item if a customer is not pleased with what they have ordered. We have many, many return customers who tell us and on social media how happy they are with the food we have serve. It would be great to know exactly what you didn't like the food. Please message me- [email protected] and we'd be happy to send you a gift certificate so you can give us another try and find out what went wrong for you. Thanks,Lisa

What a pleasant surprise at 1860. We sat out side to enjoy our scrumptious meal. I would return here many times. The inside seating was perfectly matched with the layout of the house. Our waitress was adorable even though the place got very busy after we arrived. So, our food - yum - BLT with a summer salad & homemade tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich - so very tasty. Highly recommend Circa 1860 for delicious homemade food and relaxing atmosphere.

First time trying LSF and overall very happy with the experience. We would return and recommend. The open kitchen concept with small dining room and tastefully decorated space provides a cozy dining atmosphere. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The locally sourced food options were excellent and well prepared. Fish and homemade pasta options we tried were delicious as was the hummus and crab salad starters.Looking forward to returning and trying other items on the menu.
