The oldest pub in Hastings, we are a small, friendly, 16th century inn with separate dining room, log burning stoves and landscaped gardens. We have a range of real ales and lagers and a wide range of sprits. We stock over 30 gins, many of which are local
We were staying in Rye and after searching on Happy Cow App we found this pub as one of the few in the area serving vegan food. We drove from Rye and were not disappointed. The pub is quite quirky and the atmosphere is very friendly and hospitable. We ate some delicious food and how nice to find somewhere that serves vegan desserts! We stayed for a few drinks afterwards and just really enjoyed the place. The lady who served us (and everyone else in the pub) was very friendly and really is a credit to the pub. Would we recommend this pub? Absolutely! Thanks so much for your review - I'm so pleased you enjoyed yourselves (and good to hear about the Happy Cow App). We are adding more vegan and vegetarian dishes to our menu this summer so please do come back and try us again soon. Best, Nic. x

This place has gone completely downhill since it was taken over. The service was absolutely appalling. None of the staff showed any sign of any charisma. Service was slow and plates etc were put down clumsily as if staff had received no training. The food itself was disappointing, onion bhaji was greasy, curry lacked flavour and was cold by the time it was served. I would have complained but nobody bothered to come and ask. The elder gentleman (presumably the owner) spent most of the evening standing on the higher level floor staring at the diners & staff. I felt very uncomfortable about being stared at but when we were leaving and weâre gathering our group my the door he came over, I thought that was a nice gesture but I was wrong, he walked past us all and out the door without even so much as a âgood eveningâ to our group who had just spent over £300! The decor is tired and no effort has been made sin even it changed hands. The lighting was too bright and the place had no ambience at all. Donât waste your time or money. There are plenty of other places to choose from in Hastings.

As a group of five friends we worked our way through a fair chunk of the menu, and everyone was thoroughly impressed with their food, the service and the relaxed, friendly vibe. I had an extremely tasty breakfast/brunch, beautifully cooked and present and assembled from high quality ingredients. Look forward to returning on my next visit to the Sussex coast.
