We stopped here for lunch while walking Hadrian's Wall. It was a delight, friendly and welcoming with reasonably priced food. We had sandwiches which came with crisps and a salad, and I had a homemade flapjack which was delicious. Perfect for what we wanted

Warm, friendly country restaurant that caters for all. Real Ales available, with plenty of parking spaces. All of our food is fresh and homemade with ingredients locally sourced. We also provide a takeaway selection. Food is served: Wednesday to Friday 4p
Very friendly, small pub/restaurant. Good service. We enjoyed a very good quality Sunday Lunch - half roast chicken and beef brisket (very tender) which was served with a good selection of veg, potatoes and a yorkshire pudding. Good tasty flavours, portion size not too big (which was fine for me!). We then had sticky toffee pudding and ice cream sundae desserts which were both nice. This was our first visit and the place was good and certainly has potential. The inside could maybe do with a bit of a refresh (especially the toilets). Prices were good and offered value for money.

In a Victorian town house with original features, Casa Romana is very convenient for the train & bus stations and has ample parking nearby. Bring your family or friends & join us for a homemade lunch from £5.95, Early evening 'twilight' menu of 1,2 or 3 c
My wife and I have recently returned from a short trip to Carlisle to celebrate my birthday. On our first evening, we went to Casa Romana and found it was bustling with a full dinner service underway. Our host John said that no tables were available but asked us to come back in 40 minutes. We did so and were quickly seated at a window table. Both John and our young waitress Jenna were very welcoming and attentive. We had pizza and a pasta dish which were both well-cooked and packed with flavour. We also enjoyed the atmosphere as it's a very good sign for a restaurant to be so busy on a Tuesday evening. In fact, we liked it so much we booked a table for the following evening, the day of my birthday. So, the next day after a day trip on the scenic Carlisle-Settle railway line, we returned to Casa Romana for dinner and were greeted by Sue, who was warm and friendly and immediately put us at our ease. Again, Sue and her young team of staff were very attentive. The food was superb; I had the lamb paesano, which was succulent and delicious, while my wife opted for the chicken risotto, which she said was exquisite, washed down with a bottle of shiraz. The portions were substantial and we had had cheesy garlic bread to start, so we had no room for dessert (although seeing them appear at adjoining tables, they looked delicious), so I had an excellent coffee and a glass of grappa to finish.Casa Romana is a wonderful restaurant in every way - from the ambience to the staff to the quality of the food. They really do serve cucina della nonna, proper Italian home-cooking. Any time we find ourselves back in Carlisle, we will be sure to have a meal at Casa Romana; it's just a pity it wasn't nearer home or we would be there on a regular basis.Ciao e mille grazie a tutti!Thank you for your wonderful review Paul, it is very much appreciated. The staff remember you well and were thrilled about your review and that you chose to celebrate your special day here with us.We look forward to seeing you again next time you are in the areaRichard, Chef/proprietor
