Here's what to expect. A small, simply-furnished room, with a couple more tables outside. On the wall above the counter where you order and pay, a menu consisting of a couple of salads, a few sandwiches and burgers, a couple of meat plates, and a fish plate, plus a special or two on a chalk board. Tableware consists of paper plates, plastic utensils, and plastic glasses. If that sounds a little too simple for your tastes, drive on by.Here's what else to expect. Lots of aloha and friendly service. Really tasty and well-prepared food, in ample quantity. Happy patrons.Good prices. We came in late for lunch, and were told she still had enough fresh mahimahi for one plate, and one sandwich. That's what we ordered. When it arrived, it looked like there was really about twice that much fish, and it was excellent. I joked that we'd always try to time it so we could get all the fresh fish she had left. We will!

Went to the Bamboo for lunch with a friend from Kona. We waited 20 minutes before getting up and walking out. No service, no food, no drinks. The waitress walked by several times, did not greet us, say I will be right back, or anything else. She seemed to be to busy talking to someone she knew. Will not be back!!This is horrible!!! I am so so sorry. I am out of town so I don't know what happened. I wrote alohasterlings with an apology, and I also want to ask for more information. Were you in yesterday? Can you give me more details? Please help me solve this terrible event. I am appalled.

We loved this place - there were 4 of us and we all had incredible meals with wonderful service. We had no idea if this area had much to offer for food, but we eventually found this hidden gem and we were not disappointed. The tofu sandwich was amazing - I'm still dreaming about this and how good it was a week later!Hummus was also incredible as was the calamari sandwich.Services was friendly and the kitchen was fast - I can't say enough about this tucked away restaurant.great place to visit after a day of hiking in the area!

Voted Hawaii's Best Kava Bar by the Hawaii Island Journal. The Kava Kafe has been serving the finest kava since 2004.
Quesadillas...great!Chilli dog....yummy!Tuna sandwich...excellent!Sweet potato fries...very different and not what we expected. Unlike the orange sweet potatoes we usually associate with fries, these were round slices of a purple potato that had a very starchy taste. We really were surprised and didnât really like them. We ended up giving them away to a local woman sitting outside the restaurant, as we didnât want them to go to waste. She loved them! The menu has great sandwiches, burgers and more to chose from and the ice cream bar looked yummy.
