Traditional Cretan tavern with local pure products. Beautiful outside space in the garden, safe for children. You will find enough locals to enjoy their coffee or raki in the tavern, guaranteeing the quality of the tavern...
Stopped for dinner on suggestion of our villa owner. Food was fine and service wasn't bad at all. So many places to choose from in the area though that are just as nice or better.Thank you very much for your nice review! We hope to see you again...

I'd recommend Plaranos for drinks, definitely not for lunch or dinner though. I ate here twice because the atmosphere was very misleading. It looks amazing, especially at night but they served me food from the day before, twice. Lamb from the oven & grilled octopus are two of my favorite Crete classics but I've never had them this dry (and lukewarm). I finished my plated the first night as we arrived very late and I was very hungry. 2 Days later I came back for lunch but sent the octopus back as it was like grinding on a poorly heated car tire. The staff was polite about it though. So, drinks. Not food.

The Taverna Nicos is located at the Long Beach of Koutsounari - a small sea side village 6km east of Ierapetra. Please enjoy traditional homemade Cretan dishes as well as delicious grilled meat, fish, omelettes and fresh salads from local farmers.
Could have stayed in our self catering apartment and produced better meal.It wasn't very busy and though they had a menu you can forget it.Most things were not available! So in the end there was very little choice, the owner seem to be cooking and waiting. We had to more tables due to a Greek who spent most of the time loudly talking on his phone and smoking lucky the cafe space area is large. We got eaten alive by insects and had an army of little ants busy in their activity next to our table. It was the quickest meal we ever ate out in the whole 2 weeks in Crete.,
This is a lovely taverna, It is a little bit out of the centre but really worth it to visit. Through the years we have been in a lot of tavernas in this area, but this is a hidden secret.
Home made Burgers, Souvlaki, Gyros Pita, Hot Dogs and Skepasti(double Pita sandwich) at it's best. Find us right next to the Port authorities in the center of Ierapetra
