Three of us had a truly enjoyable lunch on a shaded patio overlooking a small stream. We each had the Menu du Jour which included a great salad plate with charcuterie for starters, then we all chose the veal that included French fries and a vegetable. We finished with a dessert. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful, even though they did not speak English. The final total was 15 euros per person, a great value for everything we had.

Dinner options in Ales on a Sunday are limited at best, but you can definitely do worse than the Hippopotamus. Centrally located on Place Henri Barbusse, the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We weren't pressured to make decisions quickly, but never had to wait around to be served either. My eggs in a red wine sauce starter was certainly a novelty, but my burger and Gin Fizz cocktail were well executed classics.

We've entered the place without checking tripadvisor. And for once, I'm glad. I don't know what the fuss is al about here, but this is most definately a very honest restaurant with nice food and very nice personal service.I recommend to everyone who is not a snob and just likes nice local food for an honest price and very nice service!

Nouveau sur la commune, ce petit resto sympa est à découvrir !! Menu du jour, pizza et carte sont à déguster !! Pour ma part salade césar et pizza extra !! Je recommande
