Where to eat Grill food in Bolzano: The Best Restaurants and Bars

December 26, 2019 Jeremy Dunfee

Find out what Grill restaurants to try in Bolzano. The capital of Italy’s northernmost region of South Tyrol, Bolzano (Bozen in German) has only been Italian since World War I, and its character remains distinctly Germanic. At the center of the town, Piazza Walther is named for a 13th-century German minstrel. The town’s most famous resident, Ötzi the Iceman, dates from about 3300 BC and now rests at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology. The striking new building for Museion, the city’s modern and contemporary art museum, opened in 2008.

We were glad that we followed the other reviewers and stopped for dinner here. It was just what we were looking for: casual, inexpensive, and quite tasty. The roasted meat (I can not remember which "bratten" it was) and potatoes were excellent; tender meat, full flavored sauce, and plenty of thin sliced roasted potatoes. The turkey salad was tasty too; large portioned. With a bottle of water the bill totaled 27€; plenty of good food for the money. We did our best to navigate the Italian/German menu; an English speaking waiter was most helpful.

My husband and I found this place on trip advisor. Don’t be put off by the name or the takeaway appearance from outside. We were so impressed - it has a lovely restaurant area which is comfortable. The curries we had were amazing - so much so we returned the following night for another meal! We had prawn curries and they were perfectly cooked. Also rice and naan bread which were also delicious. The chef was in an open kitchen and it was great to see him cooking. The toilets were also extremely clean (always a good sign). The staff were so friendly and obliging. Very impressed and would be there every week if we lived here!
