The first beach you come to is tiny and disappointing, but if u climb the hill to your left, you will arrive at the most beautiful, sandy, beach with water so clear and warm, that swimming is a joy!

Great experience in a traditional and well designed restaurant full of Cretan charm and a stone pizza oven at the front. Very popular as the meals are superb, portions are filling and the Stifado was amazing. Lovely atmosphere and very welcomimg

Kakavia is a long-established traditional family taverna in an idyllic setting: snuggled close to the ancient Minoan site of Paleokastro, the Minoan peak sactuary of Petsofas, and a Venetian fort on the sea-cliffs of Kastri, and right next to the clean, unspoiled, quiet beaches of Kouremenos (which has excellent wind-surfing facilities) and Chionia. The food is local, simple and ultra-fresh. I had wonderfully-succulent sea bream and kalamari and (ordered especially the day before) the best rabbit I've ever tasted. The house red and white wines, from Toplou monastery, are outstanding. Food and wines are remarkably inexpensive.Kakavia is open every day, all-year round, cooked and served in a friendly welcoming atmosphere overseen by family matriarch Olga. The whole experience (tranquility, ancient history, walks, beaches, food, wines) in this place is soothing to the soul.

This family run restaurant is fantastic. We ate there 8 of the 10 nights we were in Agathis and loved every single bite. We've not has a bad meal in two months of travelling around Greece but Stephanie's traditional dishes really stand apart and Yiannis grill and roasts are equal to his wife's cooking. Combine it with wonderful Cretan hospitality and it is sure to provide memorable meals and times shared with friends. Absolutely unforgettable. Miss it already.

Traditional family restaurant. We cook with olive oil from our own production and our vegetables are fresh from our garden. Our smile always welcome you and promise that you feel like home!!!
A delightful family-run taverna in the main square of Palaikastro, serving good, traditional Cretan food of high quality. The prices are typical for this area -- for example a plate of dolmades (stuffed vine leaves) for four euros, a large chicken souvlaki for seven euros and fresh sardines for 7.50. A half kilo of the excellent local Toplou wine is six euros. The family is friendly and welcoming and the location is great for watching the world go by. Highly recommended.

The restaurant ELENA has a history of over half a century. It began as a traditional café in the 1960s and became a restaurant in the 1970s with the arrival of the first tourists in the area. At first he offered a few dishes from the pot of the family, th

A quiet tavern just a few meters next of the main square of the village. We offer to you the best we can and we always treat you like familiars... You may choose an excellent Greek meal or an exceptional Grilled temptation in a very relaxing atmosphere.
Atmosphere: Great! Hospitality: Great! Host, staff: Very friendly and enthusiastic. Traditional local food, with some imaginative twists. The oral presentation of the menu was very entertaining, the food very good (and very much!). We really enjoyed our meal, the chat with the chef and the staff, absolutely the best dining experience we had in the Palaikastro village. (The very nearby village Agkhatias has an even better choice if you are only no to have one dinner in this area: The Elia restaurant there is excellent). We spent a week in this area, and tried out quite a few places to eat: Retro and Elia were the places we returned to.
