We stayed for week in Istron and ate here 4 nights out of 7. The food is fantastic, good choice and food plentiful. We were advised on dishes and were never disappointed. We were given free desert every evening and Raki. The family were friendly welcoming and generous, even tried to get my husband his newspaper as not sold in the village. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

I'm pretty sad to write this review... as I've been visiting here for many yrs. Food is always great but a big problem this year with accommodation.I booked for 18 nights with a right of free cancellation. So I cancelled it within the given time. Once I had been in the village for 5 days the full payment came out of my account which was a lot of money. This money came out easily..and should be replaced the same way. The money was withdrawn by Kavousanous not hotels.com which I first thought. I was told by hotels.com I'd get the refund in 24 hrs which is normal, which i did not!! It ruined the last week of my hoilday. I received a payment today, one full month later....and not even the full amount. Not sure I'd ever book with free cancellation again it's very misleading. I'm so so so disappointed All of Kavousanos family felt really sorry about this .the main problem started because of a technical issue of not sending and receiving mails .The thing is that hotel.com gave not correct informations since because of capital controls still remaining in Greek banks.Even though the money was staying in the bank wasn't possible to be tranfered without being demanded from your bank .We all really felt sorry about this and tryed every day to find , throu our bank ,a quicker way to solve this problem .kind regards Kavousanos team

Looked very nice from the outside. The waiter /owner was very friendly. I must say it all looked very clean. We ordered our usual assortments of meze and a lamb dish recommended by the owner. I asked if I could have potatoes from the oven to go with the lamb, but was very disappointed to receive a plate of chips. If you haven't got something or can't do something just tell the customer that when they order !! The lamb was luke warm at best and tough. ( I just wrapped it up and took it for the cats living near our villa ) The meze dishes were average for Crete. I think most things are prepped earlier and then just microwaved when needed. The only noise coming from the kitchen was the pinging of the microwave. The owner / waiter spent most of the evening delivering food to customers in the village, or sitting with a family of people who appeared to eat there most nights.

A visit to Waterland is a must when staying or passing through Istron. It doesn't sound authentic and you could easily walk past but don't. The owner and staff are so friendly and accommodating...but not intrusive. The menu offers a great selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner at great prices. Best of all...ask for the specials for dinner...lamb kleftiko ...yum. Real traditional home cooking and plenty of it. Owner was very accommodating on our last day when we had to leave our villa early before our evening flight....lovely relaxing place to pass the day with lovely food. Thanks so much for your hospitality. Highly recommend.

A taverna that make their own bread, olive oil, wine and grow their own vegetables and meat, the cook and serve it. We call that a vertically integrated business so it keeps the price down but is a lot of work for the family.Customers are the beneficiaries of all this effort!

We noticed the reviews on TripAdvisor and wanted to try it out especially as the hotel food wasn't the best!The welcome was warm if a little "cheesy". Really good selection from the menu from traditional food to those who prefer the burger/steak meals and everything between. All the food was homecooked including the delicious bread. Great view across the bay as well made for a great evening with my wife.

Nice atmosphere, great view over the Mirabella bay, Greek traditional music. Dishes prepared of fresh, seasonal components. We especially recommend traditional Greek dishes like 'moussaka', 'souvlaki' etc. Nice and friendly staff. Maybe interior is not so impressive but food is enough good to recommend this tavern.

Family Busisnes Restautant/Taverna good atmosphere traditional greek/cretan food! We are in a lovely place Istron with three wonderful beaches!! Near to Sant Nicolas(14km)from the road to Sitia on east side of Crete!!

Was shocked at how many people were crammed onto the Eastern end of this beach , cheek by jowl sun beds and barely an inch of beach visible .... but turn left instead of right at the car park and youâll be rewarded with an oasis of lawns in cultivated gardens where an enterprising gentleman offers sun beds(2.5 Euros each) in the sun or shade of his big trees a few steps away from the pebbly shores of the bay . Free showers at the waters edge too and itâs an idyllic spot with no crowds. We asked his recommendation for a taverna for lunch and he said his favourite was meRaki ... just shows itâs worth asking someone with local knowledge ! A delightful family run taverna , we met daughter front of house & mum and brother were in the open kitchen . Food was again fabulously tasty and very reasonably priced , complimentary mezze starters , perfectly grilled Sea Bream , a richly flavoured dish of Gigantes , Tzaziki, freshly griddled vegetables and mamas own home made orange cake offered as a free dessert which was incredible - moist and full of flavour , as always in Crete raki to finish off another wonderful meal , if you are ever in the area do go and eat here , youâll be pleased with whatever you order . Very reasonably priced too and charmingly served , who could ask for more?

This restaurant right on the square near the harbour was always busy , so had to give it a try and we werenât disappointed. We both eat traditional and it was lovely. The staff made us feel at home and the service was excellent . We had starters, mains, wine and got complimentary dessert and raki . All this for a very reasonable â¬45â we had a great night , thank you
