Zgorzelec [zɡɔˈʐɛlɛt͡s] ( listen) (German: Görlitz, Upper Sorbian: Zhorjelc, Czech: Zhořelec) is a town in south-western Poland with 32,322 inhabitants (2012). It lies in Lower Silesian Voivodeship (from 1975–1998 it was in the former Jelenia Góra Voivodeship). It is the seat of Zgorzelec County, and also of the smaller district of Gmina Zgorzelec (although it is not part of the territory of the latter, as the town is an urban gmina in its own right). Zgorzelec is located on the Lusatian Neisse river, on the post-1945 Polish-German Neisse border adjoining the German town of Görlitz, of which it constituted the eastern part up to 1945.

We have stayed at the Schwibbogen Hotel twice, 5 days in the Spring and 3 days at Christmas Market in December. We always walked by the Schwibbogen restaurant, and never ate there. There are a large number of really good restaurants in Gorlitz. One cold night in December we tried this restaurant and were very impressed. My wife still talks about there sauces. The wait staff very friendly and one spoke very good English and was very helpful. We have eaten at ever one of the top five TripAdvisor rated restaurants in Gorlitz and rate this as good as any one of them. It should be rated much higher. This restaurant and Acanthus are better then their rating implies.

We had a lunch by chance here, because the restaurant we selected was closed. Wow what a pleasant surprise! We eat two hot soups, a tipical goulash dish and a pork and potato dish. Everything with half liter beer each, trying to respect ancient German habits :). The check was 28â¬, 14 each... In Dresden I paid the double to get half of it!Very good! If you go to Gorlitz don't miss it!

Wonderful charming restaurant with an authentic historic flair right next to the town center with regional dishes with a modern twist. Very nice staff, excellent food and a very special beer selection! It's the perfect place to enjoy your evening in this lovely town.

We ate here on our 1st night in Görlitz when other places were full. Their loss was our gain, so much so that we returned the following evening. The Zum Nachtschmied is a very nice, very traditional pub/restaurant with good, traditional local food and beer. There is, though, a short wine list for those who prefer. The menu is dominated by pork - they even have a section entitled "For those who don't want pork" - but none the worse for that and the service similarly good. The one warning is that they don't take credit cards, but there are banks with ATMs on/near the Obermarkt. Thoroughly recommended.

This is the restaurant of the Hotel Tuchmacher, and it was an absolute delight to dine there. We could only cope with a main course each, but enjoyed every mouthful, whilst the appetisers were delicious, as were the chocolates presented at the conclusion of the meal. Staff were superlative. The evening was one to remember.

We were determined to try the Schlesisches Himmelreich (google it!) before leaving Görlitz and our Rick Steves guidebook recommended the Destille. We were not disappointed so perhaps this really is the best one in town?Beef carpaccio to start was excellent, the pasta dish my wife had was good. Goosberry liquer afterwards delicious.We arrived at 19:30 and were lucky to get a table, so reservations are recommended - although it was half empty when we left. The young guy servings us was professional but not especially friendly - should try smiling once in a while.If you found this review helpful, I would appreciate your vote.

An upscale and old-world place right off of the Untermarkt. It was popular with the cast of The Grand Budapest Hotel who stayed in the nearby Hotel Boerse:We had a delicious regional dish called Schlesisches Himmelreich (Kingdom of Heaven), which is a creamy stew of Pork Belly and dried Plums and Apricots.

We sat outside at the tables in the middle of the "square" between the two streets (much nicer than it sounds). My German wife said her schnitzel was excellent, my roast pork was just good. The beer was nice, the service very friendly. Prices reasonable. Solid German fare and recommended if you are looking for a casual meal.If you found this review helpful, I would appreciate your vote.

This is a wonderful place that I keep coming back to year after year. The peace, warmth and beautiful surroundings make for a perfect getaway. The Obermühle in-house brewery (situated directly above the aesthetic bar) produces an excellent beer, which, when served by local waiters, will give you the sensation on culture.Great food! The kitchen uses mainly local vegetables and meat; I had a talk to the chef-cook and he told me, that they visit many of the producers of these ingredients. After a satisfying meal from the Obermühle, you should rent a boat and sail into the forrest and enjoy the peace.The rooms are surprisingly neat, compared to what you often meet outside bigger cities. I enjoyed a room with a view to the lake, where the sound of rushing water was lulling me into rest.I fully recommend the Obermühle for eating, drinking and sleeping for anyone!
