This restaurant is such a gem and offers real value for money. They offer traditional, local cuisine. The menu is kind of limited yet everything on it gets cooked to perfection using regional ingredients. There's a large terrace with a spectacular view. We also enjoyed the fact that this restaurant is super child friendly. They offer not just a special kids menu but also a little play corner with toys to keep them entertained.Thumbs-up!

Cosy restaurant with nice ambience. Food is excellent, tried the wild consomme, a savoury and light soup with a hint of garlic due to the herbs used, it is very appetising. also had the geschmorte ochsenbacke, which is braised on cheek with wine and beet sauce. the meat is extremely tender yet full of flavour. Some of the staff speak english but all of them were very friendly. Best of all the pricing is affordable, just like many restaurants in the Franconian region.

We are living nearby and will come there on regular bases since it always has very good food. The beer garden in the summertime is very nice!

We stopped in Spalt en route to Munich, the Rotes Ross seemed to the least unpleasant restaurant to have a meal.As the outside temperature was touching forty, we ate inside, a good choice as the dining room was cool and spotless. The welcome was very friendly and we were made to feel 'at home' as soon as we entered. The menu was the usual staple of German lunches and that is a good sign, we selected sauerbraten and salateller. Both arrived almost immediately and we were surprised to note that the sauerbraten was served with a green salad rather than sweet red cabbage. Both dishes were very pleasant and the beer was superb, which is not surprising as Spalt is the epicentre of good beer.No downside except the lack of sweet red cabbage and the bland sauce.Tim

Gasthof Blumenthal, south of Nuremberg, near Spalt, is a destination in itself! Prepare to be welcomed as family by the family owners and friendly staff whether you've been coming here for years or just discovering for the first time. The menu offers Bavarian fare and more and includes seasonal daily specials. Come with a good appetite as the servings are generous. Many of the beers are locally brewed. There is also an extensive wine and drinks list featuring regional wines. All in all, a five-star experience. Thank you!

Lovely cozy restaurant with fast service and freshly cooked meals probably the best in the area since many restaurants now have already prepared food delivered to their kitchens to pop in to the oven and serve so if you crave a home cooked meal I would recommend the schnapbrener.

Good quality Bavarian - Franconian kitchen. Well chosen house wines. Excelent service! Nice views from terace. The place has met our expectations though it did not exceeded them. Therefore, my rating is 4 points, not 5.
