This Saturday night in October we were accompanied by my daughter who was intrigued to discover the real Bavaria in Sonthofen and we were not disappointed. This is a traditional local restaurant forming part of a family gasthaus with hunting trophies bedecking the walls as per our last visit four years previously.Although a Saturday night it was rather quiet at 7.30pm as the locals tend we understand to eat earlier. We started off with drinks- a metric draught pint of the Export grade ale for me whilst my wife and daughter had small and large Radlers respectively.-followed by a Cola light for our girl. Two of us had the soup-Kubissupe for me and Tomato for my wife. Our girl had the Salat Pute whilst we tacked the Haxe, which is a traditional Bavarian pork dish especially eaten at October fest time. The portion was humungus and rich being the size of a Sunday joint. We had to admit defeat and enlist our girl's help to finish it -almost.Only my wife had a small dessert -kuche- vanilla ice at the princely sum of 1 euro. The bill before attentive service was 52.70 euros.

For years weâve been coming to cafe Mayr with lots of pleasure. The food and service were always great and the staff always made it a real pleasant experience. This year however was disappointing. The waitress was rushed, the place had a terrible smell (ok itâs a farm but this was never an issue) and the food simply average (had to send back a beef dish). Itâs a pity that this experience will mean we wonât be back for a while, but are hopeful that if we do things are back to old levels!

We stayed here on a recent trip to Oberstdorf and loved it. It is only ten minutes from downtown Oberstdorf and a wonderful place to stay outside the city. The rooms are spacious - some of the most spacious we have ever experienced in a Gasthaus. Very clean and well maintained. The staff were very friendly and the attached restaurant and Biergarten were excellent. So good that we had dinner and drinks there both nights of our stay. Overall a wonderful place to stay and would highly recommend.

We turned up as a group of 4 with no reservation. A table was found for us nevertheless and the staff still had a smile. We all had different meals and each dish was traditional German fare as expected, and was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere and decor were really nice and gave a traditional feel. The service was friendly and official we would definitely visit again - highly recommended

The restaurant is located in a hotel of which the exterior is more traditional Bavarian. However, the restaurant is modern and attractive. The menu has something for everyone: meat, fish and veggie. The young chef is very enthusiastic and and serves delightful dishes. Highly recommended!Dear YogiMenM,thank you very much for the special Feedback. We are very proud that you will recommend our restaurant. We would be very happy, if you visit us again soon. best regardsConstantin

Had dinner here with a group recently, and had an enjoyable evening. The service was excellent and very attentive. The food was so so, nothing special, and quite expensive. I had the rump steak madagascar, which came with a baked potato which was alright, but I think microwaved as the skin wasn't oven baked and the sour cream too sweet. The steak was fine, but not delicious, but cooked how I had ordered it - rare. The flavoured butter it came with was either straight out of the freezer or fridge and rock hard so did not melt on the steak.

Newly renovated place, nice open athmosphere. Ok for a beer or a snack. Geared towards younger people. Not a stiff formal restaurant and not one of the old style Gastwirtschaften as you find them so often in the region. Having said this, the food is nothing special, and some items are clearly overprized. They do have the traditional stuff like Kässpatzen, Wiener Schnitzel etc., but I have eaten that stuff better in the "traditional" places. So if you buy into their concept (craft beer, laissez faire burger joint type of restaurant), than that is the place for you. It is a trendy commercial enterprise, but the proof is in the pie, the food is only as good as the cook, and they are only hired guns!Hello Sun TThanks at all for your critical note. Of course we serve some traditional stuff, but if you got the concept of our "handwerk", the main feature is the transparency and the high quality source products from well-kown producers - we call them friendly - unsere handwerker. It is very important for us, that our guest can trust on the quality of the international named organic product. For us its not only organic, for us the are deliverd from friends and craftsmen, and they really live for their products. So maybe if you consider this the traditional stuff isn´t that "normal" as you think.Hope you will be our guest again.

We were refused entrance even after having received a confirmation of our reservation. Reason: we complained about their bad responsiveness. The lady just: you should read our email which the apparantly did send after confirming our reservation. An email which must have ended up in the spam box. Then just left us standing on Boxing day without food!

Good traditional food, an amazing Scheinshaxen. Outside seating at the promenade is recommended (good weather). Only male servers, no worries they are friendly and funny to.
