We happened upon the place after wandering around for a while looking for somewhere suitable for a family with teenagers and a baby. We spotted the nice outdoor seating areas and it was clearly popular so after speaking to the friendly waitress with good English we decided to have a drink inside and wait for an outdoor table. We had schnitzel, macaroni cheese, stuffed pasta and pork medallions, all of which were well cooked, good portions and a fair price. We've had better mac & cheese in Germany and there was some confusion over which meals on the menu were available or not but overall I'd definitely recommend.
The food her is very good. The restaurant is very clean and comfortable. and the staff are absolutely wonderful.

This small restaurant offers an amazing selection of steaks and burgers. They offer a wide choice of different cuts, from standard ones to prime quality. The steaks were prepared with a lot of care, grilled to perfection. I tried many steaks all over the world, and these ones were comparable to the ones I had in the best places in Argentina and Uruguay. To my opinion, this was probably the best steak I had in Europe, and surely the best steak in Germany. The customer care was excellent, presentation was good, and the wine selection was very good (eventhough the wine list was rather short). Additionally they erved (on the house) a delicious Thai soup and foccacia as starters, followed by a glass of sekt (also on the house). The only somewhat negative remark I have is that the restaurant could be better ventilated since there was a lot of smell coming from the kitchen (eventhough it was delicious, but I guess one does not want to have clothes smelling like food), but at the end, it is a steak house, so some smoky smell is OK, if you are not too sensitive to that.

Followed Trip Advisor to this restaurant and was not disappointed.A bit out of the way but decor delightful and very clean.Owner very helpful and food very good.Bavarian asparagus soup best ever and my first steak in Germany was like cutting through butter.Would certainly return and it is clear many do
Looking for an authentic home styleGerman meal and found it here. Single lane road up the mountain but signage along the way. Owners were very welcoming and service was great. Ordered the schnitzel and brats. Schnitzel was one of the best we have had along with the bratwurst. Fried potatoes were cooked to perfection. If you want an authentic German meal served in a home style atmosphere this is the place. Owners do not speak English but were very accommodating to our limited German.
A quiet garden at the rear of the building, with a large play areafor children, is ideal for a meal outdoors. A good choice of meals are on offer with some nice wines. The food is well presented and tasty with friendly, efficient service.

Here an old farmhouse has been transformed into a rustic restaurant. The locals like it very much. The kitchen offers some cold and hot dishes which are of Black Forest origin and are very tasty. A must is the "Strammer Max". The children have their playground and won't disturb the adults after/during the meals. From the terrace you have a magnificent view of the Black Forest. Bigger groups (8+) should ask for reservation.

Friends recommended us this restaurant - and they were wright. We were about 10 people and had different dishes. Everyone was delighted. The kitchen is typical German - but refined: salads, toasts, pork, veal, venison, fish and 3 vegetarian dishes - all at reasonable prices. We were impressed.

My wife and I have just left this guest house after 3 wonderful nights. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it.The whole experience is made incredibly easy and comfortable by the host - Rose. From the moment we arrived she was extremely friendly and welcoming, speaking with fluent English. Each morning she served up a plentiful breakfast with and the traditional options and on the two evenings we ate in the restaurant Rose was extremely helpful in explaining the menu and making sure everything was just right. The room was big, decorated in quite a traditional style but with all the modern comforts required. The shower was excellent which is always a big thing for us.The Gasthof is situated about 3 minutes from the town centre, and maybe 10-15 minutes walk from the main train station. As for Schiltach, a lovely picturesque old town with plenty of hiking routes and all the amenities we required. The bath museum is well worth an hour of your time just for its randomness and funky showroom!

In the south-western corner of Germany known as the Schwarzwald or Black Forest is Shiltach, a picture-postcard pretty small town with a river running through the middle that has retained many of its old half-timbered houses, some dating back to the sixteenth century. One of its most charming buildings is the Gasthaus Sonne on the market square. My wife and son and I were looking for dinner after 21:00 when the Sonneâs kitchen had officially closed. However to our relief they were very welcoming, there was no problem accommodating us and the service throughout was friendly and smiling in a completely unforced manner. To start with the only negative point, my wife found her wurstsalat (German pork sausage with salad) rather uninspiring, though there was certainly a good plate of it. The rest of the dinner was very good. I had the sonnenteller, which comprised pork medallions with spaeztle (a type of noodle found in southern German speaking areas made with eggs, flour and salt), potato croquettes and mixed vegetables. My son had the katzagschroi (a beef dish with potatoes) which he found excellent. For dessert I had the apfelkuchen (apple cake) that is ubiquitous in southern Germany with walnut ice cream and my son had a large vanilla ice cream with a can of heated raspberries on the side. I had a beer, my wife had a coffee and my son had a glass of white Riesling wine from another pretty local town, Gengenbach. The bill came to a reasonable â¬55.80 and we would certainly go back there.
