We were ready for anything but the warm and generous welcome plus the efficient service soon meant we were relaxing on a sun drenched terrace. Good food excellent drinks and a really fun atmosphere made for a memorable stop over before continuing on our 6 hour walking tour.

The hotel and restaurant is situated in the middle of forests, close to the village Verano and Merano with a stunning panoramic view, alpine-mediterranean food and cosy Rooms.
We had lunch at the waldbichl which was the destination of the daily hiking trip. The food was good and we had a nice snaps which is a speciality up here. I would go again.

We drove up to Gassehutte around 10 am and walked the short scenic path to Rinderplatzhutte. We thought we would just stop for a quick coffee but were smitten with the menu which included fresh buttermilk and a dish called Kaiser Schmarrn ( dessert). Obviously his was well known for food in the area as very soon the place was packed with locals and tourists. We were asked if minded sharing our 6 seater table with others ( there was only two of us) Our co occupants ordered a complete meal which too looked amazing. The air is wonderful, the view of the Dolomites outstanding and the food and atmosphere not to be missedBy the way the coffee was great too!

After a long day's walk, the 2 things you need is (1) someone not explaining that there is a lovely all-inclusive menu for relatively cheap that beats your pasta anytime and (2) charge you 2.60 euros for a 3 minutes shower token without telling youWhen I pointed out that room+breakfast was not included on my bill and therefore I should pay for it which added another 23 euros, all I got was a gruntCheer up man and learn service

After a long break I decided to return to this little mountain restaurant. My last visit was ok, but not great. Well, I must admit, that I found it again excellent. The food was beautifully presented, unusual and very tasty. All food is local, but some has a great twist like using old fashioned and unusual herbs. I can't wait to go back

On the advice of friends, today we were in the Sarentino valley which is easily accessible from Bolzano, with the new tunnels. We took the Reinswald cable car which carried us to 2130 meters. From this point, if the weather is clear, you can enjoy a wonderful view of most of the mountain ranges of the Alps. From here, moreover, numerous paths branch out to suit every age and physical condition. We took the path number 8 which leads to an alpine pool; due to the clouds, we stopped three quarters of the way. The path is fairly steep, but easily passable. We stopped just before the pond and fortunately for us, we could see four marmots that, in our presence, were camouflaged with the characteristic hiss of alert. On the way back, next to the cable car, we stopped at the bar of the Pichlberg hotel. It is a beautiful and very modern wooden structure with large windows that fits perfectly into the environment. It was a wonderful surprise to be able to taste an excellent strudel on the large terrace from which you can enjoy a spectacular view. The bar service is fast and the staff is very kind. The hotel bathrooms are spacious, very clean, fragrant with essences and very comfortable: praiseworthy. In my opinion, thinking of globalization, there is no signage in English, an universal language that must be understood and spoken everywhere, even in South Tyrol.

We were staying at Auner Hof, a 100 meters away and thought we'd get a drink at Sarner Skihutte. I tried to order a drink in Italian, but the bartender only spoke German and a very little English. Turned out nobody in the place spoke anything but German. Nevertheless, we had a blast! One of the guests pulled an accordion off the wall and played for a while. The chef kept bringing out food we did not order - quite delicious! It's in a stunning location. Can't wait to go back!

We've returned here this year. We compared this restaurant with other ones we passed walking, this one had a signigicant larger menu. For the kids, there was Kaiserschmarren - lovely pancakes. We had a pasta and a plate of local meats and cheeses. Lovely.
