Restaurants in Oybin
Essen voll in Ordnung....
I have not been to Oybin in many, many years - and the climb to the top of the mountain with it's castle and monastery ruins as a child felt always daunting - so this time around I truly enjoyed it (the review of that at a different place). My parents suggested to have lunch at the Berggasthof on top of the mountain as they had good memories of it. So right next to the cemetery and the castle ruins sits this historic restaurant with its many levels perched on the mountain side - very romantic. They had outdoor seating and since it was a nice day we picked a table (no reservation needed) and where greeted by the young wait staff. We think two where Czech since Oybin is so close to both the Czech and Polish border - and they had a accent that suggested it - which would be good as we also met many czech tourits there. The menu was just one page but filled with simple but well known German and Czech dishes - something for every taste. The entre's arrived fast (Soljanka and Bread soup) and so did the mains (Goulash, Schnitzel and Suelze/Brawn). All the meals where extremely tasty and clearly home cooked and prepared and we truly enjoyed our meal. Price wise about average for a German Restaurant meal - around 8-9 EUR per main dish.We also had some local beers (Eibauer Schwarzbier) and coffee's If you do go to Oybin (out of the way even in Saxony) you will enjoy your meal on top of the mountain and experience true and not fancy German cooking. They do have larger rooms too where they hold special events that are themed around the history of the place (knights and ladies and so on).
My "strange" food requests were met, food was served quickly and an enjoyable glass of local beer went down well

The entire restaurant area (45 seats), the beer garden (24 seats) and the sanitary rooms are on one level and are free of steps and other obstacles. Our chefs are particularly attentive to the freshness and quality of all the ingredients used in the prepa
We love this restaurant, both for private occasions and for business. Our visitors are always impressed by the surroundings and the atmosphere there. As the restaurant is quite small, reservation is essential. Food is excellent and prices reasonable.

We made a bit of exercise and walked from Oybin to the top of the mountain of Töpfer. Nice place with splendid views. The restaurant is fine. Offers a wide range of meals and drinks. Strongly recommended is the soup soljanka.

A very unusual building. Called in here for lunch - sat outside until a brief rain shower!Didn't seem to have other than German language menu (could be a problem for some). Meal was quite substantial and nicely prepared/presented. Service is good and old-fashioned. Be ware that they don't accept card payments

The restaurant leaves a very well-kept impression. A stove spread pleasant warmth. The website and the menu are only in German. We could speak with the friendly waiter only in German. These are probably the reasons, why the other guests were all German. We did not have to wait long for our meal. The soups, we got, were a bit weak, but the main courses, which were large, were beautiful plated and tasted good. This restaurant is worth a recommendation due to the dishesâ beautiful decoration. You have to expect that the prices are slightly higher, as well as other things in the nice resort of Oybin (such as parking and entrance fees).
