This restaurant is in a typical Austrian house with beer garden. A short drive behind Portschach. The food is an excellent example of local tastings. We visited it a few times during our stay in the area. It has grown and expanded in the last four years, at times not for the better. It can get very busy and the staff can be pushed to the limit. However they do a fabulous job under busy times and the food is worth it.

Nice place to eat, there was a crowd of locals who seem to have a good time there. We all ate wiener schnizel and it was nice, we payed 61 euro for 5 persons.

During a long hike, we took a detour to the Turnerhutte. The road to its location was very promising, high on the mountain, through the forest and then... you see the Hutte on top of the hill, in the sunshine.Hoping to be rewarded with a stunning view over the valley (like everyone of these Hutten has!) we couldn't believe our eyes. The garden terras is completely surrounded by leilandi trees, blocking the view of the Ossiacher See we know is just below us!! What a disapointment. It was like this hedge was especially put there to block the view. If I would own this place, first thing I did would be to cut down the hedge - it would add so much to the value of this place. I still can't get my head around it...We ordered an alcoholfree beer, and when the drinks arrived, we asked if the beer was indeed alcoholfree because it looked like a tap beer (and we know alcoholfree beer mostly comes in a bottle). So no, it wasn't alcoholfree she said. Well, we ordered it so please bring an alcoholfree beer. She asked if the regular beer wouldn't do. Well obviously not! We politely asked to bring the correct order again, and she sighed and rather annoyed took the beer away. So much for friendlyness, and why would she suggest we accept a regular beer if you specifically ask for an alcoholfree one? By the way, alcoholfree beer is available everywhere in Austria, it is very common. For lunch, we had the Kasnudeln, and a turkeysalad. The salad and also the side salads with the Kasnudeln were very wet and sloppy. Now, we know that Austrian salads come with a lot of dressing and we actually like that, but this was just vegetables in a cold, sour soup. Kasnudeln were not that great either, but we had been hiking for a couple of hours so we were hungry. In all,we were let down by the non-existing view, the indifferent service and the medium food.

Gerlitzen Gipfelhaus offers a few room to stay in overnight plus it has a large restaurant. It's situated right at the top of the mountain at over 1900 metres. the view from here is simply breathtaking. You can see over Karnten, into Steiermark, through over to Slovenia, then to Italy and upwards to Salzburg. You can even see the summit of Grossglocker. It's an incredible panorama that is 360 degrees! Inside, the rooms were basic with shared bathrooms, but I slept well. It was good value too, with half-pension options. The evening meal was good, and breakfast was even better with a nice large selection, plus freshly made eggs of your choice. Being a large self-service style ski gasthof, it did feel a little impersonal, and the bar shut down completely at 9pm. The Gipfelhaus only accepts cash, with no credit cards or bank cards allowed.

I have traveled in many countries and different atmospheres. I really enjoyed this upbeat and comfortable spot for the views of the beautiful lake and especially the warm welcome and chats with the wait staff and owners. They asked about our travels and offered great suggestions of spots with should see before we leave the area. The owners were around and checking on customers. Every dish we tried was delicious! Even one of the specials of fried liver and onions. The pizza was unique combinations and desserts were great too! It's a great pitstop on the way as you are touring through the area or if you decide to stay at the camp ground.

Tolles Gasthaus, sehr freundliche und flotte Bedienung, Preise normal. Speisen sehr gut! Schöne Terrasse am See, daneben gleich das Strandbad mit Liegewiese und schönem Zugang zum See (haben wir nicht genützt). Sehr empfehlenswert.

A secret hiding pace is an understatement. Kilometres up from Osiachersee, this is a magical little hut which offers fantastic local cuisine. All food is hand made of local ingredients and offer a limited menu yet amazing food. The variety of Kasenudln on offer is many and all are amazing. I took a local here who did not even know about it.

I got the steak 250g with kartoffel, bacon and green salad...so, the steak, medium rare, was perfect and maybe the best that I had here in Austria!Half liter of nice red wine from Italy, a GOOD espresso (i'm italian), for 29 euro. Legit.
