Reviews on German food in Oberstdorf, Bavaria, Germany. One of Germany’s biggest and best-known resorts, Bavarian Alpine village Oberstdorf is popular with families year round. It’s home to Heini-Klopfer-Skiflugschanze, the world's second largest ski-jumping hill (and site of the famous "agony of defeat" ski-jump wipeout clip from ABC's Wide World of Sports). Nearby are the ski areas of Nebelhorn, Kanzelwand/Fellhorn and Kleinwalsertal.

Gerne wieder.!

After a long walk down from the Fellhorn, we found this little gem. Situated slightly above the valley, with a pretty garden and its own trout pond, it has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The menu offers a good selection, and the service was quick and friendly. I had the Kaiserschmarrn, which was very good, and the portion was big. My partner had a delicious soup. The restaurant is not in Oberstdorf itself, but near the Fellhorn cable car. You can get there by car, so it's also suitable for non-hikers.

Charming hotel, newly renovated with very comfortable rooms. Peter Strauss, owner and chef, sent us off with a bottle of white wine from his Rhineland vineyard. We left some valuables in the room safe and he arranged to mail it to us. Excellent breakfast with eggs to order and honey from the hive. Parking costs but is convenient. Located in a pedestrianized area is good, but trucks come roaring in from early morning until 10 am to load and unload bottles and supplies, heavy diesel engines clattering away. Otherwise, excellent stay.

Our party of 9 (4 adults, 5 children) ate at the Almenhof on Christmas night 2014. The food was very reasonably priced and all 9 meals were excellent, catering for those who wanted more traditional fare (eg. the trio of dumplings), local produce (eg. the steaks), as well as fish fingers and chips for one of the children. The live music from the accordion and guitar, with a bit of yodelling thrown in, really added to the atmosphere and was loud enough for us to hear over our chat, but wasn't at all intrusive. Menus were in English, which helped us non-German speakers, although the waitress had a bit of trouble translating the dishes back to German. Overall, it really made our Christmas Day.

We felt this was a disgrace. The food quality was just not good enough. The main course of beef in red wine sauce was just sliced cold meat with some gravy poured over it. Would not go there again in a month of Sundays

Fast and friendly service in this newly remodeled restaurant. The place was packed with families and tourists, which is the main draw. Can be fun as a couple unless you are looking for something quiter. Live music by two funny guys. Despite the theme type atmosphere the food was stellar. Everything was cooked to perfection. I had fresh local trout and my new hubby had steak, both were melt in your mouth delicious. The prices were great too. Highly recommended to get you into the Bavarian spirit.

We only ate in Sachaâs once during our holiday, and the food here is good but not the best in town. However, we dropped in for a beer a few other occasions, as the friendly, helpful staff kindly gave us 1 hour free Internet connection while we enjoyed our beer.

Our USA-based family group (Oma, Opa, two adults, two kids (6&7) visited twice during our week in Oberstdorf - both times an excellent experience. Good beers (dark and light) and juices; schnitzels, Brauergulasch, sausages, apple dishes (strudel and ringe). Convenient location, comfortable outdoor seating, welcoming staff, English language available. If we'd been there longer, I'm certain we'd have made another appearance!

We loved our evening at Riegers. The service was spot on, really friendly and caring. The atmosphere was wonderful. Slightly modern still keeping the rustic charm befitting the town. We shared flammkuchen for entree....we LOVE flammkuchen so relished the chance! Perfectly crisp base, lovely topping, beautifully cooked and light as a feather. Main was venison for me and cooked to perfection with a lovely reduction sauce, perfectly cooked brussel sprouts and chewy parsnip. Seasonal, fresh and delicious. They served the noodles separately and I was happy for that as the dish didn't need it (in my opinion) the portion size was good as is. Portion sizes in Germany seem enormous! My husband had 200gms of rump steak cooked medium rare (you ask for it cooked "English" to get rare to medium rare in this part of Germany!). This dish was a bit of a let down for three simple reasons easy to correct. The steak was unrested so the blood drained onto the plate and mixed with the sauce to make for a pink look, not ideal. The mushroom sauce itself was just bland and needed a good dose of mushroom taste and acidity. The potatoes served with his dish were a bit oily and not very appetising. Just basic errors which I think were the result of a busy kitchen rather than an overall downfall in the cooking as my venison proved they know their stuff out back. So I would absolutely recommend Riegers. The wine list is small and very well priced, the staff really care and it's a great little restaurant we'd return to if we were staying longer.
