The schnitzel here is excellent, and thereâs lots of it. I had the chicken schnitzel with Gorgonzola sauceâamazing! Potatoes that come with meal are great too. A big benefit here is that they have a wide range of chicken schnitzel, which is good if people in your group donât eat pork. They have outside seating, which we didnât use because it was raining, but Iâve sat outside here beforeâitâs on a nice quiet street.Iâm coming back here (a third time) next time I visit Mainz.

Good food, wines, and service. The owner is friendly and the surroundings, both inside and on the outside tables, are pleasant. We liked the menu at Weinstube Losch, next door, a bit better, but zum Bacchus makes an excellent flammkuchen-- a must-try if you have never had one. This is an excellent place to eat..

Welcome to Weinhaus Michel the only pub in the old town of Mainz where the bartender serves his own wine. Stefan Michel comes from Weinolsheim near Nierstein, where his family has been growing wine since 1756. We've been into ecological wine-growing for y
We were delayed a day arriving in Germany and as a result missed visiting a winery. This place made up for it as they had a 'carousel of wine'. We tried 6 different varieties of local wine and sat outside at a picnic table with locals. We didn't order food but I wish we had the food looked amazing. We did buy two bottles of wine and were surprised at the prices, maybe around 7 Euro at most? We did have a small incident because we kept trying to flag down the waitress and a local grew annoyed at us. He went inside and fetched her for us. We were a bit embarrassed because of the language barrier and realizing we were annoying the locals. Either way, don't be afraid to go inside and ask for your bill.Dear Gidgetglam, many thanks for your good assessment. We are glad that to you liked our "wine personalities". Please, excuse the problems on the account - fine that regional guests helped in this situation.Kind regards from the heart of Mainz's old town Astrid, Stefan Michel and their team

We of the chimney are an announced and comfortable flaming cake restaurant, in the middle of the hearts of the Mainz Old Town. For more than 10 years we supply the inhabitants of Mainz with traditional, creative and seasonal flaming cakes creations. In 20
Popped in here for a quick after-cinema drink but wished that we hadn't. We waited ages to be able to order and then ages for the drinks to arrive. The place wasn't even full and we didn't order anything complicated. On a brighter note, it was fun to get a hot chocolate seved in a milk-bottle and mint tea (although we ordered ginger) served in a handled preseving jar (is this why the room smelled of pickled onions?).

Great atmosphere especially for a group. Definitely book ahead if youâre going for dinner as it is clearly very popular.SETTING/ATMOSPHERE: Central location in the old town, not far from the cathedral (5-10 min walk). Itâs a lively micro-brewery/restaurant with lots of fun elements like the 5 litre beer tubes, 1m long trays of beer, a maze of different rooms and big shiny copper brewery vats. SERVICE: Service was cheerful and friendly and our meals arrived quickly. FOOD: Good traditional German food. Three of us had pork schnitzels with mushroom sauce - huge portions and simple but very good. Our friend had the Schweinehaxen (pork knuckle) which they list on the menu as their classic dish (it had a whole menu page dedicated to it). It wasn't as big as weâve had elsewhere and our friend said the schnitzels were much nicer. TIP: We booked ahead for dinner as there were 4 of us. We were glad we did because the place was heaving all night and I didnât see any spare tables. We went again a few days later for lunch. We didnât book this time but it was much quieter and there were spare seats.

Weâve been going to Am Holztor for many years now on our visits from Canada to Mainz and have always enjoyed stopping by this restaurant for a couple of beers and to get away from the typical tourist haunts. Both of us ordered the famous half dinner and fried potatoes, but, after enjoying the lovely fresh green salad, were sadly disappointed by what was presented. The potatoes were delicious however the chicken, as beautifully presented as it was, turned to an almost sawdust like powder when cut into. Tough, stringy little bites washed down with dark beer and out the door we went ... return? Highly unlikely given the multitude of restaurants in Mainz to enjoy!Dear Bill, thanks for your review. I am not happy to hear, we couldn't satisfy you this time. Sorry for that! Unfortunatly you didn't complain to my staff, so we didn't have a chance to make it better. Since it wasn't your first visit and obviously you have been happy with your previous visits, it's hard to understand - because we always ask our guests if they are happy with their meal. We hope, you'll it another try and please: if you not satisfied with what's on your plate: let us know! Thanx again and happy holidays.

The highlight of the Bellpepper restaurant at Hyatt Regency Mainz is the open show kitchen, which gives insight into food preparation and the staff around Chef Sven-Ole Hastreiter. The modern and elegant interior design, with magnificent views of the Rhin
...locate in the Hyatt hotel and facing the Rhine river, this restaurant offers a quite expensive yet fabulous brunch. There is nothing you cannot have...starting in the morning with the more traditions breakfast stuff and getting a full lunch buffet towardslater. We arrived pretty late so we only had the âlunchâ part of the brunch...linguine with truffles (a lot, just as I like them), Roastbeef, king prawns, risotto, the greatest burrata you can think of, you name it. Dessert was excellent, too, especially the bread pudding with peaches and vanilla sauce, but also the rhubarb cake and the mango cream. Enjoying all of this i the first row directly by the Rhein, with super nice South American service - a perfect way to spend the day in Mainz. Also a plus: you can walk into the city from there and to the Neustadt and walk back and have the best gelato in the region just a couple of feet from the restaurant before you pick the car.... Dear TheRealGelatoGirl, thank you so much for your great review and kind words about your visit at Restaurant Bellpepper in Mainz. We are glad to hear that you had an overall amazing experience and enjoyed not only our food, but also mentioned our location. I hope we will see you again soon in Mainz and will be able to welcome you at the Restaurant Bellpepper. With warm regards,Frank HeckelmannGeneral Manager
