Best known to most Germans as the locale of Georg-August University, Gottingen has about 130,000 residents, about a quarter of whom are students. Gänseliesel (Goose Girl) is the city's most famous resident, a 1901 fountain built in front of the 14th century Rathaus (Town Hall), which today houses the city's tourist office. But even Goose Girl can't escape the college students, who by tradition upon receiving their PhDs must climb and kiss her, making her "the most kissed girl in the world."

also stayed at the nearby hotel, so the restaurant was an obvious choice. Since it was Asparagus season in Germany, the restaurant served it with delicious homemade Sauce Hollandaise. Quit place with friendly staff and moderate prices.

A modern extension on the left side of the historic Deutsches Theatre includes the "DT Bistro" - an attractive and relaxed place to eat and drink. The food available ranges from a snack to a three course meal. I had a particularly good steak, but vegetarians are also well catered for. An obvious place to eat a pre-theatre supper, but also a good choice even if not attending a performance. We arrived for an early supper at about 18.00, but fairly soon the bistro got very busy before the performance in the Theatre. The apple strudel for dessert was also very good. I would be very happy to eat there again.

Hi
Beyond the fact that the food is well prepared (and seasoned with more than just salt), we were served a good portion with caring and politeness. The menu is mainly German and Mediterranean style, but the dishes had a unique quality of flavoring as well. Then the menu tells us of the humanitarian aspect of the owners, in hiring, training and even housing disabled people. This restaurant has my vote for the best in Göttingen because it goes beyond just a good meal and service, and is truly helping our community.

P-Cafe is well known for it's delicious breakfast. They offer a great variety, vegetarian options are also available. Prices are reasonable, the food is fresh and tasty, the plates nicely decorated with fresh fruit. And you get plenty! We spent the whole day exploring the city afterwards and didn't need any more food until dinner. The only downside for me is that the place is so small, a bit hard to navigate between the tables. It was packed when we arrived and we had to wait for a table, but not for too long, so it was ok. In summer they also have outdoor seating which is less cramped.

I went with a friend and we both ordered burguers with bacon and onion, with sweet potatoes fries and fritz cola, and they were really good ! Also the place was nice but small, and the staff was welcoming and nice, and they helped us choose between burguers. The owner approached uds to introduce himself and to see if everything was OK. All that positive attention made us feel welcomed and pampered. I'll definitely go again!

really nice situated bar and restaurant at the ancient city wall, directly at the Botanic Garden. Especially the surrounding at the outside chairs is simply wonderful - if it's warm enough an the sun is shining.Good cold and warm drinks, a variety of Persian and similar dishes and very good home made pies.

This a favourite haunt of my family and an absolute must if you are visiting this charming university town. The game is mouthwatering and the steaks like butter! This is old fashioned Deutsche Kueche at its best. Go for Frischlingskeule. Goose and duck are also sublime! Bregenwurst mit Gruenkohl and Bratkartoffeln.......lecker!Dessert has to be Rote Gruetze.Spiffing restaurant!

Good, wholesome German food, very nice biergarten. But during lunchtime, and particularly when combined with the weekend brunch, very crowded with inadequate personnel. Takes forever to get an English-language menu, very, very long time for your food to arrive, but all this is different after, say, 2 p.m., so my impressions are mixed.

Bratwurst Glöckle is a small standing room, like a tube, for max 8 to 10 people with the best coal grilled German sausages in Göttingen. I know what I'm talking about, I live in this city since 50 years. Bratwurst Glöckle has it's own atmosphere, a liitle bit of 60th flair. In point of fact, the tradition goes back to 1920. The Bratwurst is made by an regional butchery with the same long tradition. It's always a good idea for me, to finish a Saturday's morning shopping tour in Göttingen with a Bratwurst (or two) at Bratwurst Glöckle.

This restaurant is located in the total city center, easily accessible on foot from anywhere. Although inside there is a cosy atmesphere, we prefered to sit outside and enjoy nice weather. The service was really express (3 different waiting, although the main one was not so driendly-looking). Prices are affordable, you can choose from main menu or seasonal offer. A draught dark beer was a surprise for me, cause it's almost always offered only in a bottle. The best of all - the meals!!! OMG, that was probably the biggest and tastiest schnitzel I've ever seen in my life! And fresh salad aside is a standard, which is nice. Apart from that, you don't need to worry to use the toilet - small but straight. All in all, no 1 in GÃ for me!!!
