The place looked out dated. Felt like going back on time a few decades. It certainly has seen better days. So expectations were low. To my surprise the food was good. On the level you expect in the better German Gasthöfen. The waiter was friendly but looked a bit sloppy. So white a little more attention for interior and exterior this place good move up a league.

We managed to get a table at this local restaurant while visiting the Weinachtsmarkt with 2 German friends. It was my husband's birthday and we wanted somewhere comfortable that served local specialities. From the outside this looks like a fairly typical german restaurant but inside it had been fairly recently redone and was light and airy, and beautifully decorated for Christmas. The menu while not extensive featured many local Schwabian specialities and we all found something to suit, even the vegetarian in our party. The food was well cooked and presented, the beer was good and the waiting staff extremely helpful. We all thoroughly enjoyed our evening and I would thoroughly recommend it for atmosphere, quality of the food and drink and value for money.

For more than 48 years, the good spirit of hospitality has grown and flourished in the Berkheimer Hof. For three generations our family has run this guest house, situated by the river Neckar on the edge of beautiful Esslingen. Since January 2004, we are t
Yesterday I went with a friend. Locality a little bit business like. Good and descent regional kitchen with special 'Äsprit'. Many local products from farms and farmers around. The lamb for example is from the shepherd of the neighbouring village. The beers they offer are unusual and special. The service was good.Thank you very much for your review.

My husband and I had such a great experience at Mattis. We do not speak German, so the owner, who was also serving us, went out of his way to explain the menu to us. He even brought out a sample of the maultaschen (Swabian ravioli) for us to try so that we knew exactly what we were ordering. We ordered the onion maultaschen and the mushroom. Both dishes were excellent, especially the mushroom. We enjoyed Mattis so much that we wanted to go back again, but unfortunately they are closed on Sunday.

The âGoldenes Fässleâ, which means Golden Barrel, is a small restaurant in the German City of Esslingen. The Restaurant serves typical local specialties, ranging from Home made âMaultaschenâ, a local specialty that can best be described a a large Ravioli, served in a clear bouillon, to an excellent Zwiebelrostbraten, which can best be described as Rump steaks seared in a Pan and finished in an oven, topped with plenty of roasted onions and gravy. The décor of the restaurant is typically for the area, clean and quite cosy. The service was excellent, the food, in my case a Zwiebelrostbraten with homemade Spätzle, a local type of noodles, was of the highest standard. All in all is the Goldens Fässle an excellent choice for local cuisine and stands in stark contrast to the predominantly foreign cuisine restaurants we passed in Esslingen. A great tip for those who travel to Esslingen and wish to sample traditional local cuisine at great value for money prices.

Der Rote Hirsch ist die moderne Interpretation einer Weinstube. Im architektonisch anspruchsvollen Ambiente lässt es sich wunderbar regional genieÃen.
We had a great evening in the Rote Hirsch in Esslingen. Situated in the historic center of medieval Esslingen. We were welcomed by a very professional waiter and chose a table on the terrace - very nice atmosphere. The recommendation was fresh asparagus and it was well prepared and very tasty, served with a crepe and chicken breast (you could have had ham or a steak instead). As all the products are from regional producers - we had a nice Riesling - some things on the menu are very specific Swabian. All in all a fantastic evening. We'll be back!Hello Tom B,thank you for your rating. It is a pleasure for us, that you enjoyed your evening in Der Roten Hirsch in Esslingen.Hope to see you soon again.Best regardsSteffen Kauderer

Traditional restaurant well-located in Esslingen's charming old town; picturesque interior and pleasant outdoor seating on a quiet square. Menu somewhat limited; the pork/spaetzle dish was very good, but relatively expensive; and unaccompanied by vegetables or salad. It's nice to find places that still brew their own beer, except that it wasn't especially good (rather weak, imho); and is served in small glasses better suited to Sekt. So I would probably try someplace else next time

All Swabian classics and some other German specialities are served here, along with local wine - which is difficult due to climate, especially for the red, but the barrique Spätburgunder is quite good. The food is good, yet not extraordinary, but it's not expensive and the location and the atmosphere are great and staff is very friendly. I recommend to try the Maultaschen and the Besenpfännle.

This is a very nice restaurant in an old house in the City center. The place was not full and most of the costumers were locals. The food was really good. I had a Cordon Bleu pork with potato salad and a fresh salad that were amazing. The local Esslingen beer is also good. For dessert, apple fritters with vanilla ice cream. The service was excellent and the restaurant is very cozy.

We booked this restaurant which was fortunate, despite it being a Monday night, as it was full when we arrived at 7pm.The food we ate, the atmosphere, the age of the dining area in the cellar we sat in, the helpful waiter, and the excellent wines and beers we chose, all added up to make a very special evening for us.We recommend 'Weinkeller Einhorn' to anyone wanting to experience a genuine German evening.
