My husband and me (gay couple) we were here with a bunch of friends (all straight). We were in the "törgelen- season", when the wine has just been harvested. In that period the restaurants are serving traditionally foods. We ate knödel, Spätzle and Kaiserschmarrn. Even if you are not from Europe or Germany, Italy you can denitelly try out these 3 dishes. The last one is more of a desert: heavy but jummie. When we were there (Saturday, local guests were playing on instruments and were singing German and Italian songs. Really nice. The atmosphere is really friendly and easy to make contact with other visitors. And the best part: we got a free "snaps = a drink" complimentary. Really really nice folks the family Schenk. We'll come back

I have never had a dumpling other than what my mother had made when I was a kid, but we were seated with a German couple, who strongly suggested we try them, and wow, they were excellent. They were so full of flavor and butter that we had to come back in a few days and have more. We had a house red and white wine that were also excellent. And we had many many laughs with the German couple who were a pure joy to be seated with. The service was so pleasant and helpful, in fact I gave them a large tip which you don't have to do in Italy But when the service and food is this good, you must. A perfect 2 evenings (except on the second night we were seated with kind of a grumpy guy, but oh well, I had my dumping). Don't pass this place up, or the dumplings.

Villa Madonna was by far the best restaurant we had the pleasure to discover in Siusi and was the culinary highlight of our holiday (which also included Lake Como, so stiff competition..). It's quite remarkable, firstly for the genuine talent and creativity of the chef, and also for the beautiful setting overlooking the rolling hills and the extremely picturesque church of San Valentino. I might add that it's also remarkable for the modesty of the bill... There was a fixed-price menu "degustazione" which we didn't have (it included four courses), but you could also choose à la carte. We dined twice, and a three-course meal with starter, main course (primo or secondo) and dessert, plus a bottle of wine and mineral water, came to between 70 and 80 Euro for two. The dessert portions were so generous that one would easily do for two (though we devoured one each...)! Our dinners were voyages of discovery... so many subtle flavours. The menu changes all the time, so I'm not sure if there's any point giving particular tips... If the cappucino al forno is on the dessert menu, go for it, it's utterly original and exquisite! It's a kind of baked cappucino cake, warm and melting... hmmmm! It comes fresh from the oven and takes about half-an-hour to prepare apparently, so remember to order it at the beginning of your meal. We also sampled a melon mousse with chocolate something-or-other (my descriptions are hopelessly insufficient, I can't describe food with any detail, but please just believe me when I say it was a treat beyond comparison). I wish I could do justice to each dish, but everything is refined, imaginative and so artfully presented that it seems a shame to disrupt the picture and tuck in! How they can produce such quality at such reasonable prices is a mystery to me, but clearly cuisine here is a labour of love. (It stood out all the more in the Tyrol region, where in our experience, cuisine is often somewhat stodgy, or at best unimaginative).The Villa Madonna is mainly a hotel, and there's no sign outside to tell you about the restaurant. However, non-residents are perfectly welcome, but you have to book (we dropped in during a walk a day or two ahead). The hotel reception can seem a little bit formal, but do not be discouraged... You can ask to see the menu (though it changes all the time) and they're very open to accommodating any special dietary requirements. In particular, they offer gluten-free options, but we didn't try those. The restaurant itself is very friendly, welcoming and relaxed. Although it's a little outside Siusi, it's a very pleasant 15-minute walk from the village for those without a car (on foot, take via Henrik Ibsen just after the bus terminal, then first left onto via Fasslfun and keep right at the bend... the lane becomes a grassy path with stunning views, and the hotel is just at the end of the path. What better appetiser, but with comfortable shoes! Take a torchlight for the return home - beautiful on a starry night... or otherwise you can just follow the footpath along the main road, which is well-lit). Again, being a hotel, service does not go on late, roughly between 7.30 and 9 / 9.30 (we got there a bit before 8 p.m. and had plenty of time to enjoy a relaxing meal).Five stars for the food, the creativity, the beauty of the surroundings, the incredible value and the very nice people.Dear Inishbofin2016,thank you very much for your fantastic feedback and this amazing report about our restaurant! We had the pork chops, spinach dumplings/knoedel, and salmon soup, all very tasty, and, with the salad buffet, one leaves the table quite satisfied, at a very reasonable price. And, the house red wine -from nearby vines is an exceptional opportunity to further appreciate the tastes of the region. Friendly environment, good service.

A very nice mixture of restaurant combioning Austrian/Italian culture, good food quality but poor choices for Vegetarians & Vegans sadly besides that all was good. The service was curtious, food well prepared with very good taste.Though I don't drink Beer/Lager etc the choices are excellent & authentic as my friend had a few drinks there.

Had a deer meat goulash one night (really good) and a spinach ravioli. The ravioli was the best I've ever had, no exaggeration. It is made right there in the kitchen.

Located in the Hotel of the same name
We were recently on a Viking cruise where the food was delicious, very good quality, and presented artfully. We have been to Castelrotto before and remember having good meals here, so we were excited to be returning to this charming quaint town. ZUM TURM was the best meal we have had in a very long time-better than Viking, and other high end restaurantâs. To make it more special they knew it was my husbandâs birthday, a big one, by the way!! The wonderful staff decorated our table, even flowers and candles. Then they brought us complimentary champagne!!! We were so touched and it will leave a lasting memory. Our meals were delicious and presented beautifully on long narrow white plates. My husband had the venison and I had steak. His meat was very tender and the warm red cabbage delicious, as I tried both. My steak was cooked to perfection as were the fresh vegetables. Enjoyed the potato latkes as well. A variety of fresh breads were also brought to our table before ordering that were tasty, fun to try several types of bread. Always wonder why no one serves butter with bread though?! Of course the birthday boy had to have apple strudel for dessert which he said was wonderful. Thick with apples and a light crust that almost melted in your mouth..yes, I had a couple bites as well. Thankful we are staying for a few days so that we can return again this week. Highly recommend and the staff was very nice and accommodating. What a wonderful way to start our visit here in this charming village!!!

We had schnitzel and entrecote and our entrees. Both were very good. Ordered a cabbage salad and it was not what we were expecting but still good. It small mounds of shredded and marinated vegetables like cabbage, carrots, corn, beets. Reasonable prices, friendly staff. We couldn't sit outside without a reservation.

The opportunity to try an all-chestnut dinner was just too attractive not to try, and the kitchen did not disappoint. There was even chestnut beer available, which was not bad at all. We had the chestnut gnocchi and chestnut mousse, both delicious. Of course these were special courses not available all the time, but the creativity and the resulting tastes seem to be indicative of the quality of the kitchen.
