The food was delicious, hearty food and huge portions. Exactly what you want from winter Austrian food after a dayâs skiing. Family owned, filled with Austrians and seemingly untouristy apart from us. Up a long windy snowy road, so definitely go by taxi. Get the calorie-laden Kaisermarren for dessert (one between 4 to 6 people probably).

Stopped off for a snack. Waiter spoke very little English but no problem with menu. The berry strudel was huge and to die for. My wife's ice cream sundae was enormous and packed with fresh strawberries. All was served with a smile and a dance. What more could you ask for.

It's a shame that the bad service took away from the food, which was really pretty good. The server had us follow him to a table, but there were still other people there, which was awkward. When the others left, he seated us. After several minutes, he asked us to move because he needed the table. He seated us at another table which wasn't completely cleaned. After a long wait, he took our order and eventually brought our drinks. He didn't come back to our table until it was time for us to pay. Another server brought my wife's order. After at least 30 more minutes, my order was brought out by yet another server. We loved Rattenberg but would never, ever return to this restaurant.

Die Arcade restaurant in Schloss Matzen hotel has a great chef that prepared for us a three course menu which was tailor made for us. Every single plate was made by carefully selected ingredients, perfectly cooked giving our dinner a unique taste. The ambient environment and the excellent service give the final touch.

Lovely owner kept the restaurant open for us on a Sunday night, we had a delicious meal. The quantities are HUGE, so come hungry! An interesting feature is the caramelised fruit they serve with savoury dishes. Nice choice of Austrian wines (mostly Burgenland). Freshly prepared pancake for dessert. We plan to come back during daytime to be able to enjoy the view even better.

This was our first hike and we took a bit of a detour, but it was well worth it when we got to the top. Ate the famous 'Kaiserschmarren'. Great service and fantastic location.

Traditional menu with a choice of meat, fish and vegetarian options, well cooked and attractively presented food. Staff were lovely, professional and attentive. Price wise, on a par with the other restaurants in Alpbach, service as good as the local 4* hotels.

Worth a trip just to ethics lovely working chalet and how it is built. Quaint and packed with character. Simple and traditional local mountain food that is reasonably priced. Best place on the mountain so far. House Schnaps before skiing down is well worth â¬2.50
