Reviews on Gastropub food in Parkgate, United Kingdom including The Ship, The Red Fox, The Brewers Arms, Lady Hamilton, The Mouse at Brimstage, Nouvelle at the Black Horse
Gastro pub located in the beautiful town of Heswall, Wirral. We're in the Black Horse, know for being an historic part of the community.
We're new to the Wirral and seen this great pub advertise on Facebook and what a great place to eat.We had mixed Croquettes to start and then the Lamb. We can praise the quality of the ingredients enough. We can't wait to come back and try the Sunday Roast. Very welcome staff too.Hi Mulkigas,Thank you for taking the time to write this review. Weâre glad your enjoyed your experience and the Lamb is always a popular choice. We hope to see you again soon.Nouvelle x

The Mouse at Brimstage is located in a rural setting within the Leverhulme Estate at Brimstage Hall & Courtyard. Recently. Under new ownership from mid-November 16, the stable block (main restaurant), bar area and conservatory have all been renovated with
Had a wonderful dinner here, last night. There were 9 of us and we all cleared our plates from starter to pudding. I had the prawn starter which is beautiful, served with chilli jam. The steak for my main was superb, tender, juicy and perfectly cooked. Fantastic home made chips and even the veg was perfectly cooked. Compliments to the chef and to Danielle and her team. Great service, wonderful food and a fantastic little restaurant. If you've not eaten here, you should!

I cannot decide whether this is a good place to eat or not.The food was very nice with plenty to choice from. I particularly enjoyed my lemon sponge with custard. But there just seemed to be something missing and can't put my finger on it!The price is very good for the two course but they only seemed to serve for a few hours a day!

Characterful country pub restaurant set in spacious grounds. Serving fresh food, cask ales and wine in a welcoming, atmosphere.
The food is good and well presented, but there was only the choice of two veggie mains. It was extremely busy but the service was excellent. The downside was that there were several small children on the next table running around and shouting. Not what you want on a Saturday night out with friends in a good restaurant.

Located on The Parade which, many years ago, used to be a busy waterfont with ships anchoring on the Quay, only yards from the front door. The Ship now has a view over the silted up estuary of the River Dee, and a thriving wild life sanctuary, to the hils of Wales. With plenty of off road car parking, the pub has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and is obviously popular. When we arrived at noon it was virtually empty, but within half an hour there was hardly a spare table available in the cozy bar area. With a good local beer, and a wide range of gins, whiskies and other spirits, complemented by a reasonable wine selection there was sufficient to meet most tastes, whilst the food menu was reasonably varied with a number of home made items. The home made fish pie was great, but spoilt by the undercooked and almost cold vegetables, stringy mange tout and difficult to cut cauliflower. The sticky toffee pudding was, again, first class, the service staff were cheerful and willing, ut The Ship could 'up its game' in certain aspect of the food offering.Dear John T,We are sad to hear we did not provide you with the best possible experience. Lack of focus, carelessness and indifference is not what we are known for. We are sorry your experience was not reflective of our reputation. In future a manager on duty would happily change your veg if you prefer it to be cooked more. Our veg generally gets cooked al dente so as it retains all it's nutrients, but we appreciate different people have different tastes. It is thanks to feedback like yours that we can tackle issues that may impact our most valuable asset, our customers. Thanks again for your honest feedback,The Ship Management
