Very nice small restaurant that was packed when visited on the evening of the 29th of May. Great clientele as well with one of the top French fashion designers as guest showing appreciation for this new spot. Interesting dishes and nice atmosphere but the talented team needs to get more staff in the kitchen such as in service to speed up all the process. Like we do say in French "default de jeunesse" that once corrected and after this summer may well become one of the tables not to be missed in this beautiful St Jean de Luz that is a post card by itself.

We first had lunch in this restaurant and enjoyed so much we decided to have dinner there as well. We've had an excellent moment : the dishes are elaborate and delicious, the meals are altogether copious and surprising. Moreover, the small patio where we ate is comfortable and calm, the staff is attentive and nice... A commandable place to have a nice time and eat well !

Saint Jean de Luz has become a very popular place for all ages to holiday and July is holiday season and you would hope that most restaurants are open on Sunday lunch and evening and thankfully they were.We opted for this restaurant as most of the menus on this street offered the same choices at the same price, most were busy so the food should be okWe chose the 20.90⬠menu for 3 courses and the choices there is a cheaper option 17.50⬠if you wantThe service was pleasant and efficient and the food quality was excellent, however the meal was a bit rushedThe downside was the wine choice (limited) and prices expensive for ordinary wines The meal was not really worth the price charged but it is tourist land and tourist prices so you have to pay unfortunatelyWe will be back in Saint Jean de Luz as we like the place for its vibrant life but we have a big choice on restaurant and are unlikely to go back to this one for a long long while

We stumbled upon this restaurant not knowing anything about it, the chef, etc. What a treat! The food was wonderful! We all had a fish dish, either turbot or cod - and the sides of ratatouille and celery purées were perfection! We met chef Ortega and learned he studied under a Paul Bocuse - and it showed. An excellent meal, start to finish with an excellent wine list. The hostess/server was lovely and attentive and the sous chef equally entertaining in the open kitchen. When in SJdL - you MUST eat here!

Alaïa restaurant welcomes you on the beach of Socoa for lunch and dinners. Its large terrace is opened on the beach with views on the Socoa castle and Saint Jean de Luz bay. You will enjoy local food and organic wines.
Good food well presented, very attentive service. We ate at this restaurant twice and would thoroughly recommend it. The prices were reasonable.

When somewhere advertises itself as a 'gastropub' it immediately makes me think of bare brick walls, maybe some exposed, industrial, coppered pipework, a hipster serving your food. Given this is St Jean de Luz, I never actually got to see the inside, as everyone was sat outside in the early evening warmth, but it didn't seem to fit the stereotype. Fortunately, however, the food was definitely on the right side of the gastropub expectations. We went for different oeufs cocottes to start - my wife opting for a truffle topping; for me parmesan, and both were absolutely delicious. This boded well, as we worked our way through a bottle of wine, for the main courses. We weren't to be disappointed. My wife's cod, with a deep orange pepper sauce, was excellent; but I have to say it wasn't a patch on my 'burger' from the specials board. This wasn't so much the traditional patty, more compressed pulled beef, and it was tasty beyond description. We were lucky to arrive without a reservation when we did (about 7.30 or so) because later on people were being turned away - it seems this place is rightly popular. The waitress was friendly, and at no point harried anyone to leave their tables (including a couple of octogenarians who, having finished their food, spent at least half an hour over their coffees). This also feels like a nice, slightly quieter spot, on a side street off the main pedestrian drag, so just has a chilled feel to the whole thing. Highly recommended.Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our restaurant. We are happy to hear that you had a great time! See you soon !
