We first started visiting this restaurant over 20 years ago when we had a house a few miles away. We have visited many times with family and friends, and both singly and as couple. Since then we have moved to the coast but still visit the area. I was really surprised to see such negative comments. I accept this restaurant will never win a Michelin star however it is always busy at lunchtimes offering 3 set menus plus a plat du jour. The cheapest set 3 course menu is â¬12.90 which is good value. Various salads are available from the a la carte menu. Service is always brisk and reasonably efficient. If you're looking for 'fine dining' this is not the place, it's basic (but with cotton napkins), it's not glamorous (in the summer tables are outside in the town car park facing the castle) but it's reasonably priced and reasonably good. To say it's average is a little unfair, for the price you pay it's better than average.
This café bistro style eaterie is part of L'eclerc, the local large supermarket. You order your meal at the counter, pay the cashier and collect your freshly cooked meal from the counter. Limited menu but adequate range for the clientele using this place who are predominantly shoppers and local employees working in the local businesses. However the primary reason for eating at this café is the STEAK. Delicious and huge! 2 large steaks, fries, 50cl of wine and 2 coffees came to â¬21.90. A bargain! The staff are efficient and polite. Lunchtime only not open in the evening. If you're looking for a good quality meal at a reasonable price then this is the best in my opinion.

Excellent pizza, pasta, steak hache kids burger. All cooked really well with obviously fresh, high quality ingredients. Kids loved it. Buzzy atmosphere, packed on a Tuesday night. Good value too (50 odd euros for family of four inc a carafe of decent house rose). Highly recommend.

The new owners of Le Grand Cafe are professional, efficient and best of all extremely friendly. The new interior works well with modern styling and practicality without forfeiting comfort and cleanliness. The cafe is ideally situated in the heart of Surgeres being next to the thrice weekly market and good variety of shops, especially boulangeries. The new menu now includes a twist on fish and chips which we sampled today. Light batter, ample portions and appetisingly presented. You will not be disappointed.

Restaurant Close: monday evening, tuesday evening, Wednesday, saturday midday and sunday evening. recommended booking thank you.
Surgères is a really lovely town, lucky indeed to have such a beautiful and beautifully maintained park dotted with historic buildings, including a gorgeous Romanesque church, and partly surrounded by medieval walls, right in the center of town. We happened to arrive on market day, which both added to and detracted from the atmosphere. The Table dâAs faces the park and is a pleasant room, with well-spaced tables and no loud music. I was alone, and the hostess seated me at a small table right by the door, which turned out to be fine. The restaurant was about three-quarters full. On market day (maybe every day, I donât know), there was a fixed-price menu, with two choices for each course. I chose champignons vinaigrette topped with a couple of slices of prosciutto as a starter. The main course was a kind of rosemary pork en croute, served on a bed of pureed tomatoes. Very good, a lot of food, but for just about the first time ever in France, there was nothing green on the plate, which I missed. Dessert was a delicious sort of yogurt/créme fraiche sort of thing topped with poached plums. Mmmmm. All of that for a mere seventeen euros. Service was pleasant and rapid. This seems to me to be a very very good restaurant, without pretensions to âimportanceâ. We enjoyed it and would go back.Dear Sir,Indeed Surgères is a beautiful city with its church Notre Dame, its park and its ramparts. Thank you so much for your review of your lunch this Tuesday lunchtime. We look forward to welcoming you again to our restaurant.Best regards.Madame Sabine Lachaumette.

Such a beautiful restaurant with stunning interior, a mix of old and new with artwork being exhibited on the restaurant walls. The owners are welcoming and friendly and the food is exquisite both in terms of presentation and flavour. I would recommend this restaurant and would definitely visit again.
