Crowned as the" Best Bar in New Jersey" . Verve Continues the tradition of the Court House Cafe circa 1901, Verve is your landmark 23 year bistro of excellence. Situated in the heart of downtown Somerville, NJ, Verve serves the best in French bistro fare
The restaurant was full, so the service wasn't as attentive as I had expected, and the tables were close enough together that the conversations from adjacent tables was annoying. I noticed that none of the servers were smiling and I found that odd.I enjoyed my three appetizers and they were so filling that I didn't have room for dessert, other than a delicious glass of Warrior Port.I recommend the poached pear salad (I ordered the dressing on the side), the tuna tartare and the gnocchi (with brussel sprouts, feta and squash or pumpkin puree.)

A vibrant French inspired eatery serving contemporary interpretations of brasseries classics. Offering breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch. Cargot is a welcoming gathering space located by Princeton Universityâs new Lewis Center for the Arts and across th
Reserved on their website for Motherâs Day, there was absolutely NO indication that it was a set price buffet with no a la carte available!!!When I expressed my surprise, the hostess, who seemed genuinely sorry, asked: âWould you like to keep reservation?â And I thought to myself: âNo, Iâll try to go find another place on Motherâs Day morning at 11am, in the pouring rain and make different plans .â She didnât even tell us price of buffet which would have been courteous since obviously it was a surprise to us.We were seated in the private events room which is not nearly as pretty as the main dining room. They need to add a carpet or table cloths to make the discrepancy less. Our table had a scuff right on the top and it felt very downscale. I feel like there used to be a pretty carpet in this room...Our waiter was nice enough, and went out of his way to have a menu question answered for us but in general, the team of servers was lacking. We had to ask several times for plates to be cleared, when coffee was poured for one person, they did not ask to top up the coffee of the other. The hostess said the waiter would explain the surprise buffet but he did not, and so when he asked if we wanted coffee and juice, we did not know that we would be paying an additional $20 for 2 coffees and 2 juices. It was only when we got our bill that we found out the buffet was $45pp, even for our two children one of whom is 10. It would have been gracious for the manager to comp the drinks or a class of sparkling wine to make up for the surprise set buffet but there was no such gesture. So, we had a surprise $250 lunch for four on Motherâs Day. And we were not the only ones surprised: there was a large table of 8-10 next to us who were also being apologized to for not being informed of the set buffet and no a la carte available when they reserved. I hate to think what their unexpected bill total was, ouch!Food was decent, nice offering of oysters, but all in all, not up to par service-wise for what is supposed to be a high end, good service restaurant.Buffet set up in bar area also was not particularly attractive because of the bench seating which can not be moved. I think would have nicer to set up buffet in side room and seat at the bar room and main dining room. With the oysters on ice.
