We were traveling through the area and in need of lunch on a Saturday, fairly late in the afternoon. We'd already been turned down a at one restaurant. We noticed the street fair to celebrate summer and stopped at this cafe, mainly enticed by the cook sitting outside with the pan of paella that he had prepared for the festival. We both had a plate of the delicious seafood and chicken paella and two tall glasses of rose - all of 28 euro. The good was delicious....place was filled with locals who seen to a know where the good food is. This was an unexpected treat!

We were staying for one night in St Gilles and found this cafe by accident. We were the only people there initially, and the owner served us - really attentive and helpful with choice of food and wine. Local produce and home-coked - they have their own pizza oven so you know it's freshly baked

I seem to be the only English review on here! It's a shame because alot of Brits would not come to a locals bar and they are soooo missing out. We had THE best night here with Eric and the team - we only popped in for an aperitif before finding somewhere for dinner....... 5 hours later we were still in there on the Rose. We had no dinner, but some tapas. We were made so welcome and we had such a laugh, we will remember this as the night of our holiday!

We are doing the long walk known as the Chemin D'Arles, part of an old pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. I certainly recommend this restaurant to all doing this walk as the special Peregrinos(pilgrims) dinner for 10 Euros is excellent value and a very good meal.Couscous salad with melon to start, bread and a main meal of beef with either more salad or melon with French fries and a very nice custard cake to finish, and a glass of wine included. The hosts even gave us a liqueur to finish with.Coffee was very good.I recollect other meals would be of the same quality.

Shame about the factory otherwise nice spot by the boats on the canal. Husband had set 3 courses, â¬13, steak tough but starter of grated carrots & dessert of bead & butter pudding with creme anglaise was fine for the price. My goats cheese salad was average, I feel I know as I've eaten a lot this week being a non meat eater. Asked for no lardons & was given extra cheese. Waiter very attentive.

Again, I check out trip advisor before picking this restaurant and we were not disappointed! Huge choice on the menu, something to suit everyone, food nicely cooked and well presented. Serving staff are excellent, friendly and laidback, plenty of time to choose from the menu. Lovely location right on the riverside.

The preparation and presentation of the food is above the average St Gilles restaurant, and would not be out of place in a good London restaurant. The chef tries very hard to serve food which goes beyond the average bistro fare and does well. The steak was a little tough (but what do you expect on a 3 course â¬14.50 menu) but the flavours were interesting. Service leaves something to be desired.

While staying at the quaint hotel, we just had to try the lovely outdoor seating area under the shade of gnarly trees, and we were not disappointed: great value (we picked 3 courses for 20â¬), huge portions, and everything was really tasty. Two generous orders of the paté (yum!) and a nice Chèvre chaud salad, and I had the melt-in-your-mouth beef stew and a fruit tarte for dessert. Recommended, both for food, value, atmosphere and friendly service!
