What a surprise. Recommended by our hotel. Small, busy restaurant very French, lots of locals. Absolutely charming. Not pretentious. Very little English spoken. Very cheap. 15 euro for a plat du jour with entree, main, and dessert? Unheard of at dinner. Reservations a must. Mostly locals. That says it all. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and if we were staying longer in Ales, we wouldn't even bother trying anything else.

This small unpretentious restaurant is dedicated to excellent cuisine and gracious hospitality. Their small but varied and changing menu meets all tastes with refined honest dishes and ample portions. The charming and down-to-earth owners are a couple managing the entire operation themselves. They are proud and successful to provide high quality cuisine to only 20 very content diners for lunch and dinner, period. No attitude, no ambitions for aggrandizement, unwieldy arrogant personal, or culinary product franchising. The 3 course menu can't be beaten for quality and value. We ordered 3 different meals and everything was good. I especially like the first course of 'Pêche du moment, nage au safran', and the chef's dessert surprise, 'Le dessert du 5'.I can't wait to go back again.Reservations absolutely essential.

This restaurant is situated in a very small village in the middle of nowhere, near Anduze. I'm not even sure where it is exactly, as friends took us and they were driving. But it is a place to remember. The food is excellent, cooked by the owner, chef and waitress (she does it all. On the day we went, her waiter was out sick, and her little 8-year old daughter was helping enthusiastically!). Beautiful presentation, fresh produce, we had a great lunch with our friends. It's a special place well worth the detour.

Popular for their extensive choice of salads, this restaurant is busy every night. If you arrive early (before 7.30pm) you might just be lucky to get a table without a reservation, after that you might be disappointed as it fills up quickly every evening. The food is generally very good, though to be fair the two salads that I chose on different nights (The Louisiana and the Indienne) were rather lacking in flavour which was a little disappointing as I had hoped that they would pack more of a punch. However, the ingredients are all very fresh and presentation is excellent.

This was a very cute, very tiny Creperie in a very picturesque little village. The chef is himself from Brittany (a fellow Celt) and was very friendly and helpful - including telling us all about the best places to visit in the region. All of the crepes were delicious - sweet and savoury. I think itâs open all afternoon so not as restricted on lunchtimes as some other eateries in the region. It is small - seating outside for about a dozen people I think, but the 5 of us really enjoyed it.

This long standing classic French family run restaurant, with superb freshly cooked local cuisine, was a gourmets and locals delight. On this Friday evening about a dozen locals, mainly couples ate happily together. The waitress took time to explain the content and nature of the courses from the varied menu. All the dishes were delivered piping hot [apart from the sorbet naturally] and also delivered in a timely, unhurried fashion. Therefore the meal was delicious and a pleasure to eat. Local wine also complimented the food and rounded off the evening, finshed up with fresh coffee natuarlly.

My family was visiting Ales during the festivities surrounding Bastille Day. While wandering along the river front, we saw this clean fashionable restaurant right in the middle of some very mundane fast food shops. Just for the heck of it we stopped to see the menu. We decided to take a chance and are we glad we did. The Formulae Menu for the evening was excellent and so perfectly cooked and presented. It was by far the best meal we've had in France this year. Coudos to the chef and the very bright and cheerful staff.
