Don't be put off by how this restaurant appears from the outside. Once through the door everything becomes clear as to why it is number 1 in the area.Spotlessly clean and the kitchen on clear display, we turned up without a booking and although there was nobody in the restaurant (it was 6.30pm) there was some discussion about availability. I thought this was just a ruse in trying to persuade us about being busy. However, we were given a table and it quickly became clear that we had been very lucky. Within the hour the restaurant was full to the rafters and people were turned away. The food (all local produce) was delicious especially the truffade which we had never tried before. If you are in the area, this little restaurant needs to figure highly on your agenda but, unlike us, booking may be necessary as they really do get busy.

Just passing through Riom on way to Calais after a day of very wet travel from Spain. Typical non French; looking for food at 6pm ! Nothing much open !The lady owner of this very chic and chaotically elegant restaurant tried to explain to us in French ; she was either just closing after lunchtime opening or it was very early for evening meal. Either way she was very happy to accommodate us.As we were here only customers and she was on her own we felt very privileged and a bit like home from home . The food was typical French cuisine and without being over the top 'French cooking' it was beautifully prepared and presented. All at a very reasonable price.Well worth popping in for a pleasant way to get out of the rain ( or any other time !) Jk

This was a nice little find for a casual and nice dining experiences. The lunch was simple and well done with some nice little touches. Very nice was the beetroot and black radis bruscetta. Service was a little slow, but food was good.

The place to be since 50 years....
Looking for a decent place to eat on a Sunday evening we were recommended this place. We didn't regret! Weather was unfortunately not part of game. We seated inside not too close to the piano which was played on Sunday. The toilets where clean and we where accompanied by a soundtrack of whistling birds. This for the atmosphere. Food was fine and surprising. It was not always clear what we were eating but it tasted refined with local ingredients like 'lentilles vertes' It was a nice place to end our trip. About budget: not for every day but absolutely recommended for special occasions. Thanks for this!Thank you very much for your comment, all the equip is great for it, hope to receive you another time, best regards

Hidden in the backstreets of this great little historic town is a fantastic creperie. Simple food well done with great service. Good choice of both savoury and sweet - perfect for a light meal.

We chose to have a celebratory lunch here earlier this week and were really pleased with the choice. Although a lovely round table had been set for us inside in the stylish dining-room, we asked if we could move to the outdoor terrace area, where a table was promptly laid for us.The menu choice was excellent, ranging from 29 euros for a basic no-options meal , up through 39 and 49 to 57 at the top end, offering a delicious range of dishes. The wine list was broad in quality as well as price, offering something for everyone.Service from the owners was outstanding and sensitive, although one of the younger waiting staff was a bit clueless.Unusually for France we were allowed to carry on sitting and eating from 1pm, when we arrived, until nearly 5pm. We paid 60 euros/head for the 39 euro menu plus two bottles of wine, 6 of water, aperitifs and coffee: excellent value overall. To be recommended. NB Not in the centre of Riom, so you need a car.

August is not a good month for restaurants in France and we were pleased to find this one open.A very good restaurant with well presented and good food. Seating outside would be preferred in the hot summer.

We had one night in Clermont-Ferrand and chanced upon this restaurant - a lucky chance! We were attracted in because She Who Must Be Obeyed is a vegetarian (actually pescetarian but let's not get hung up) and the menu promised a plat du jour végétarien, which is helpful in France. I'm properly carnivorous so easier to please. The restaurant is tiny, there were a couple of groups of 6 or more already in and a couple of tables for 2 available - we were seated at one of those. The place is modern, and I suspect trendy, but I'm of an age where I'm not sure what trendy is, and certainly not French trendy. The staff were young, (30 something) at any rate, as were most of the customers. The waiter didn't seem to have any English and my French is not great but we got by. He was very pleasant. I had a vegetable risotto, a millefous of aubergine and beef and a chocolate fondant with a cherry sorbet, SWMBO had a starter of cold soup which we don't know the name of, a risotto like my starter (she said the rice was cheesey - I'd have said creamy but what do I know?) and something which I translated as strawberry soup - it was like a liquidised intense strawberry delicious something, she tells me. It was all delicious - my pudding was gorgeous, proper tasty as I informed the waiter - not that he knew what I was on about! The bill, with beer, wine and a coffee, came to â¬60 and some change. Money well spent. We would certainly return.
