This is a lovely restaurant in a lovely place. Very pleasant welcoming people. The food is really good, it isn't cheap but it is good value for the standard offered. We had starters of goat's cheese and oeuf cocotte with foie gras (really nice). Main courses of merlu and pork and desserts of pavlova and pain perdu (a sort of bread and butter pudding). Many restaurants in this area offer local cuisine which can be good but this restaurant offers more. We have been before and will go again.

Second visit to this friendly restaurant . Food is beautifully presented and great use of local produce . The staff were very helpful and charming . Today Sunday lunch was extremely busy as there was a large rugby match being played in the village . The service we received was professional and perfectly timed .It's worth the 20 min scenic drive from Oloron . Brilliant location for Sunday lunch .

From the beginning when I made the call to make a reservation I could tell that there was a happy person on the other end. She had a smile in her voice. I always see that as a good sign.We arrived and I was surprised at how large it was. Apparently they have a fair amount of wedding receptions here. And they have an outdoor play ground for the children which is nice for those long French lunches. We were seven in our party and they sat us where we could enjoy the beautiful view of the soule basque countryside. We started with a nice Port while we looked over the menu. We chose from the 28 euro menu. Everything looked so good we had a difficult deciding, In any case everybody starts with a vegetable soup. It was delicious a very good start, I was tempted to have a second serving but decided against it since I new there was going to be a few courses coming. Then we had a choice of gessier salad, salmon with a champagne sauce or piquillos stuffed with cod. OMG I wish I had taken photos. So, two of us ordered the gessier salad, two ordered the salmon and three took the piquillos. They were all beautifully presented. I had ordered the piquillos and it was delicious, I never had it before but I have a feeling it would be difficult to beat that one. The gessier salad is my favorite salad here in France. The next time I come here -yes, there will definitely be a next time- I will try that salad. My husband wants to try the salmon next time -so glad he was as impressed as I and would like to come back too. Then we had a choice of steak, lamb or confit de canard. I love lamb so that is what I went with. Again a plate beautifully presented full of delicious vegetable and fruits to try. Lamb was perfectly cooked, there was cauliflower gratin -very tasty- potato sautéed crispy on the outside perfect on the inside there was a string been bundle wrapped in bacon. It was so good. Baked tomato and a baked apple. I couldn't believe how much food I ate in one sitting. Trust me you will not be having dinner after this lunch. Then of course dessert. My husband and I had the chocolate Charlotte. It was so yummy! Everybody else had a peche melba. We were all very satisfied with our meal.Service was excellent, they helped us order a bottle of wine that went with everything, reasonably priced.I cannot wait to go back. I believe this is (so far) our favorite restaurant in the Pay Basque. Hope this helps some of the English speakers.

This is our favourite restauraunt in this area. We have lived nearby for 12 years and tried most of the local restauraunts. We keep going back here, as the menu is more varied than usual for this region, plus the Garbure (vegetable) soup is out of this world. Be careful, as the soup is served in a tureen at the table, and you help yourself. Its so good, there is a tendancy to keep refilling your bowl, and before you know it, you are full of soup and crusty bread, and are thinking to yourself " Hmm, I could go straight to the desert now" When in reality, you have another course with generous portions, just around the corner. The wine list is more varied than often found locally, chillean red is good, also the local Jurancon dry white

A suivre...
