I think after a mention in the Michelin guide they are chasing a star. However they need to look at their tactics. The menu is small and very experimental which is fine. However a good restaurant would have a 'fall back' of more standard dishes. Even the soup of the day was a cold one. If there is nothing you like the look of then there is no where to go. I had the Ceviche and the salad for starter the raw fish was like eating oysters (which I love) but without the fresh taste of the sea and citrus. The salad had everything thrown in and a selection of all the sauces they do of all colours, not particularly enjoyable. My son had the goose which was supposed to come with a different salad but it looked the same to us. It was not much better than mine. We fell back on the dry aged Ribeye because of the limited choice. It was okay standard steak, cooked ok. The bearnaise did not taste home made. Sitting outside was okay, but no table cloth and the large black plastic numbers stuck on the tables did not help the ambiance. For desert I had the Creme Brulee which was very nice, and my son the panna cotta which was fine. He had lived in Leeuwarden for a year and always wanted to visit this restaurant. He brought me as a treat and was disappointed it did not work out as expected. The service was ok but being one of the few outside we felt we were sometimes an after thought. A very average evening there are better in the town.Dear ramsdenschippy, Our ambition is not a Star. In the Michelin guide there are more restaurants without a star than with a star. But we have an ambition to make a good and fresh meal for our guests. The daily soup that day was a gazpacho with watermelon. The weather was very warm and a dish like that is super refreshing. Our fish, shellfish, meat and vegetables are fresh and regional. The bearnaise is homemade and you will not find any precooked food in our kitchen. Ofcourse we would like you to come again and try our new menu. Maybe this one is more appealing to you.Kind regards, Soraya

We checked in sipping drinks in the sun outside, were treated very friendly before deciding to sit a bit warmer inside (yes NL in springtime). Had among others oysters, pasta, flammkuchen (called pizza), good fries and wonderful bearnaise(in Friesland haha), filet americain, tia maria coffee and friandises, great plate of french cheeses.Excellent choice, fine quality, though not cheap... and excellent service, so friendly, compliments!Recommended!!

After our experience with the last hotel restaurant (see my review of Navegadores), we were reluctant to try this hotel restaurant. However, after a long day of travel and a late arrival we had to make a choice between eating granola bars for dinner or giving this restaurant a go. We ended up in the adjacent restaurant (Le Brass) and while the menu certainly wasnât as fancy as the Michelin rated one it was very good. We both settled on the oriental salad, hubs with beef and me with shrimp, and it was excellent! Huge portion, delicious ingredients and just what the doctor ordered. We ate here again two nights later and while the food wasnât as good (hubs had fish, I had ribeye), the service was still very good. And the view is stunning!Dear TaxLass, Thank you very much for leaving this review for us, we value this dearly. Good to hear that you enjoyed your dinner at our brasserie. We can imagine that you enjoyed the view of Leeuwarden especially! Great to hear that the service was that excellent, and the salads were delicious. We will definitely share your review with the team. Kind regards, Hadewey Bakker

Okay, we did not expect this...but what a find! Located in the training facility of the Stenden Hotel, this restaurant serves a killer meal for a extremely friendly price. They use the 80-20 concept (80% vegetable-20% protein) and still manage () to produce excellent dishes! We will be back!

Restaurant By Ãs keeps it simple: one menu. You indicate how many courses you'd like to eat, and we'll arrange the rest. Our dishes change with the seasons and its' produce. This way, we reduce wastage together, while keeping our kitchen inspired as well.
Having not been overly impressed with Leeuwarden as cultural capital of Europe, however we were delighted to find this little gem of a restaurant, the food was excellent- beautiful complimentary flavours with knowledgeable helpful staff, who were lovely and not intrusive. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and were we to visit the area again would make sure we visit. One of the best meals we have had in a very long time. Loved the concept of no menu, but they do ask when booking if there is anything you don't like or have an allergy to.
