The bistro looks ordinary from the outside but inside its crammed with jazz photos and memorabilia and has great character. The ladies behind the bar are very helpful and cheerful. The cantal cheese fondu was superb and the "tartibleu" was excellent. Crepes were light and tasty. The pression beer and house wine also good. They have jazz evenings in the bistro and there are adverts for music nights in other towns. Well worth a visit for lunch or informal, fun dinner with friends

restaurant traditionnel et typique de la région ; Plat végétarien; poissons fumés; charcuteries ainsi que boeuf et agneau séché
Marvellous mid week meal in a relatively quiet town at this time of the year. Really good atmosphere in the restaurant and very friendly and capable service. Dinner was lovely, we were going to re-visit the next night, but they had Thursday off!

We stopped in this restaurant which was mentionned in the Michelin guide (as from now on we have decided to only go in restaurants around France with guides in hand because of so many disappointments) . Anyway, the food was ok, a bit too heavy for us but good nonetheless. Price good for the quality

If we hadn't read others' reviews the bizarre exterior would have put us off. We would have gone elsewhere and missed a treat. The interior is quirky to say the least, but the welcome is warm. We had 2 dishes we have never had before: smoked herrings with steamed potatoes in a mixed salad. Sounds weird but it works really well. The second surprise was mussels with leeks in a creamy sauce and rice. Amusing presentation and delicious, too! Very sensibly priced, definitely a find.

I'm surprised by the lack of rave reviews for this place. My partner and I ate here on the recommendation of our B&B proprietor and plumped for the slightly more expensive set menu. I'm not kidding - some of the best food I've ever eaten in France. We had a mixed Meli-Melo starter - with smoked salmon, foie gras and confit, jamon serrano, a pitcher of sweet wine (sounds odd but really worked) and fresh bread. I had the duck breast to follow - cooked to perfection; my partner had the beef which was also great. That was followed by a selection of cheeses and then a plateful of tiny bites of different desserts. The only negative comment would be that the portions were so huge we were really stuffed by the end of the meal! The surroundings are rustic and the service warm. Highly recommended.

Food was lovely I can not deny but something was missing. Service has to be improved to get a 5*. No smile at all from the waiter. No proper welcoming, we were under the impression to disturb her. The waiter did not know the food content and could not explain at all. A charming atmosphere is missing to get a 5*.

I have been in Le Mont Dore an February 13th 2013. First of all I did not find you in the city - also not after asking 12 different people. The search function of trip-advisor has guided me to Rue du Cap Chazotte, in front of the church. I was very disappointed that I did not find you so I went to "A Casa Nostra" where I have got without doubt one of the best Pizza's in my life!

Burgers are very tasty, bred is fresch, cheese is wonderful, and you are full after. Service is very well organized. You are called when the order is ready. I recommand this place.

Les Mancelles is found just out of Mont Dore on a little country road, near the ski slopes.Reasonably priced and varied menu, including menu of the day and set menus.Anna was friendly and welcoming and spoke English.Seems a popular restaurant and children are welcome. Pre booking might be necessary.Accommodation is also available and I think is reasonably priced.

To climb onto Puy de Sancy (1882 m, i.e. 800 m higher that the town of Mont-Dore) or any other mountain around Mont-Dore, you need a good lunch. Pepe Jean is the place you need: copious truffade (potatoes, and cheese, accompanied with ham, sausage and salad), of generous "tartines": a piece of bread covered with meat, cheese, mushrooms, or anything else as there are various recipes⦠a kind of warm sandwich. Excellent !
