We visited on spec with our daughter to show her the delights of a Ferme Auberge. We had the last three spaces and shared our table with a delightful French couple and their mother. The food was simply amazing from the soup and home made pate through the duck main to the cheese and home made ice cream. They also served a home made aperitif and as much red wine as you can drink. The signs to the farm from the middle of town are simple to follow, but once parked we did struggle to find the entrance which is around the back from the Parking area. It is within walking distance of the railway station to avoid the need for someone to drive. We would highly recommend if you are in the area.

If the weather's with you, eat au terrace where you can sit under the shade looking out onto the lovely verdant garden. If not, don't worry, there is ample inside dining space. Ring ahead to book during the hot season to be sure of a table. Carolinne and Florence work together in perfect symbiosis as chef and front of house in their well thought out renovated home on the hill in Cadouin. Their philosophy is to welcome guests into their home as they would friends, offering them tasty, good quality, home-cooked food produced by people they know and trust in the local area. They work in harmony with nature with what is in season to produce delicious, succulent dishes with hints of the far east and other unusual twists. Don't venture here if you like your food laden with cream or gravy as the cooking here is fresh, light and modern. The wine list is small but interesting and perfectly complements the menu. Les Terraces is open every day for lunch and evening meals all year round so does not rely solely on the tourist trade. It's not in the centre of town but only a minute's drive up the hill overlooking the abbey and definitely worth seeking out if you're looking for something a little less predictable than the usual in-town tourist restaurants that only open up for the season.

Five of us had a wonderful meal at Le Bistrot d'Epicure. It was busy on the Saturday night and glad we had booked. The service was outstanding from beginning to end, and each dish was of the highest calibre, beautifully cooked and presented. They were also more than willing to cook steak for one of us very well done yet the quality of the meat was so good it lost none of its moisture, tenderness and taste. If in the Dordogne region I would strongly recommend having a meal here.

See my review under the Auberge La Petite Reine as I've reviewed the great restaurant at this Auberge. If you're staying in the area this is a must-visit restaurant.

Good and not too fussily cooked food eaten next to a charming house under the trees on a warm sunny evening. Could you ask for more? The usual choices well cooked as well as a few unusual additions to the menu for this area. My daughter had a salmon maki starter for instance. But the excellent foie gras of the region was there as well as locally farmed and butchered meat. The staff were charming and the other diners friendly. They have an amazing way with potatoes which are served cubed, roasted and more crisp and golden than you can imagine. I am guessing the secret is goose or duck fat. I'm not a fried potato girl, but these could well be my Waterloo. I am reluctant to recommend this wonderful place as it felt like a real escape from the tourist hoards. Opening the floodgates may not be appreciated by locals already overwhelmed by summer visitors. However, it feels churlish not to praise such a lovely place and say "thank you" for a lovely evening.

Can see why it's Bruno's favorite restaurant. We were two couples who are Bruno fans so had to visit to check out. WOW and was it worth it! Sat in a sun-soaked arbour in a most beutiful setting. Really tasty Foie-gras, with glass of Montbazillac wine, followed by duck cooked perfectly and delicious desserts. Meal was a great success and quite modestly priced. Will retorn when next in the area.

.. We had the good fortune of dining twice at Le Chambellan, while we stayed in Coux for 3 weeks! Both evenings, one inside and one outside, were wonderful experiences. The owners and wait staff were charming, courteous and very professional. We loved everything we ordered both evenings and found their presentations very nice. The four tast types of creme brulee were very creative and delicious! The second evening, outside, we took our friends and we had a most beautiful young lady as our server. She was even more charming then the establishment! I recommend theis restaurant to anyone in the Dordogne area! Judi Dunn, Tallahassee, Florida

We found this very special restaurant off the beaten track, by searching nearby places to our holiday gite in Fontenille. I loved the idea that itâs a select set menu of 3 options for starter, main and puds but especially loved the idea of a veggie option on each too - a rarity in France and very welcome to a vegetarian as I often struggle in France. Each dish has a main, fish and veggie choice - perfect for all - and with a less extensive choice each dish is crafted to order with great care and attention. The chef is clearly passionate about sourcing local seasonal food and highly talented and the menu changes regularly accordingly. Everything is cooked to perfection and beautifully presented and brought to you by the charming and very helpful tri-lingual front of house who couldnât be more helpful and is a great character and asset, that makes the restaurant even more special. He is so welcoming from the minute you book and has a brilliant sense of humour. We sat outside in a lovely peaceful setting watching the swallows in the walnut trees opposite on this pretty tranquil road opposite the Mairie. My vegetable filo tart was stunning, full of flavour as was the wild mushroom risotto and the chocolate pud with melting middle was light and of perfect consistency, vanished before he had a chance to even ask if we were enjoying it!! Our favourite meal in the Dordogne so far - a high accolade for a foodie region! The price is very reasonable for such quality cooking too. Book if you can as they are deservedly popular!

One of the joys of visiting France is small restaurants serving extraordinary food. L'Esperence is one of these that surprised and delighted our group of 4. From a beautiful collection of amuse-bouche to open, to appetizers and main courses that ranged from pigeon to foie gras to fish to beef, every course was beautifully presented, perfectly put together, and delicious. With some unfortunate dietary restrictions (dairy and gluten), eating in France can be frustrating when serving and cooking staff promise accommodations but then forget. The chef got everything right, and it was our best meal of the month we had in France. Highly recommended.

A beautiful vine covered patio, great service by Sofia. Elegant, friendly, unpretentious. Many options for menu choices; a contemporary twist on traditional fare, every course was delightful and surprising. Loved the lemon meringue tarte at mealâs end, and the cocktail of the Maison.
