Top 10 Japanese food in Chigasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan

To be honest this is my new favorite French restaurant, not just in Japan but in Europe as well. The food is quite simply outstanding. Not pretentious, just delicious. No foams, towering presentations, or gimmicks, just good food. The cuisine could best be described as "Nouvelle a la Japanaise". Very healthy cooking. No butter or cream sauces. It is classical but with a hint of Japanese Kaiseki thrown in for good measure, and it works perfectly. All of the produce is fresh, organic, locally sourced and prepared to perfection. Their proteins are all very, very high quality. There are no short cuts taken here, everything is "perfect". I know this will sound a bit too effusive, but I was blown away by my experience here. The location itself is less than impressive. it is a converted storefront. Inside is modern, but comfortable with an open kitchen staffed by the owner-chef and assistant. The dinner courses are reasonably priced. My five courses cost 7000yen, about $60. The amuse was a parboiled oyster on a bed of citrine jelly cubes. The appetizer foie gras and figs served with assorted baby vegetables all perfectly cooked, first course quail on a warm salad, and the main course fresh duck. The duck was presented whole and then served as sliced breast with a herb reduction followed by the crispy leg served with mustard. This was followed by two desserts and coffee. The course menu offers fish, meat and poultry options for both courses as well as the appetizer. The wine list is very good, albeit a bit on the expensive side. They take wine very seriously here, and they display a selection of 20 different types of wine glasses with which to serve the wine depending on choice.Service was good, if not particularly polished, but the food was so good I really didn't notice. This restaurant has held a very good reputation with the locals for some time, but is barely known outside of Chigasaki, and just recently came to my attention. It is a 5 min walk from the train station, and well worth the effort to visit. It is as good as anything I have eaten in Japan, including Rabouchon in Tokyo and most I have tried in Europe. This is one of the very few restaurants that I left feeling absolutely satisfied, with NOTHING to complain about.
