Reviews on French food in Bonn, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Though probably best known as the capital of West Germany from 1949 to 1990 (and of reunified Germany until 1999), Bonn actually has a history dating back to the 1st century BC. Roman soldiers were stationed here and the largest known Roman fort was built at Bonn. In medieval times, the town gained prominence when the Archbishop of Cologne transferred his seat to Bonn. The city's most famous son is Ludwig van Beethoven, born in 1770 at Bonngasse, where a museum now honors him.

Felix Kaspar is an amazing chef with incredible innovation. The explosion of tastes in the mouth, coupled with amazing presentational skills, renders a dinner at this restaurant an experience above all other michelin starred restaurants in Bonn. Being a relatively new addition to the scene, there are still some teething pains that will no doubt be fixed as the restaurant matures. One issue was the unacceptably long wait between each course and the next; the whole meal lasted five whole hours - possibly a sign of an understaffed kitchen that day! We skipped the petit fours at the end since we could no longer stay seated... Nonetheless, I have no doubt that the second Michelin star is forthcoming sooner rather than later.

We had dinner here, sat outside on a nice terrace. The service (by owner?) was outstanding and attentive. Restaurant has a nice selection of wines by the glass. The food is not expensive and they have a nice selection: apps, salads, meats, risotto and pasta. Also several vegetarian choices. Recommend it! It is a little walk from the centre, past the new city hall.

La Cigale is a welcoming place, that is obviously a bit more expensive than the rest, but the food was excellent from start to finish. Seating was comfortable, and the waiting staff were nice, professional, and nonobtrusive. Located in the pedestrian area.

We came here specially to try the lunch menu as it is a little off the beaten track. The short walk (Bonn isn't that big!) was repaid handsomely. The menu comprises starter and main, with a glass of wine or coffee for 14 Euros, which is great value. Starter was bell pepper soup or lamb ham with salad (delicious!) and the main had a choice of dorade filet with wild rice or poularde breast and flageolets in cream. The wines- grenache or cabernet from the South were both perfectly acceptable. The waitress was discreet and fast, bringing a small plate of olives and bread to nibble on while waiting. We definitely shall come again when feeling the need for French food!.
