Good, simple lunch, fixed menu - terrine, salads, rillette to start, pork main and sadly too full for dessert. It was all delicious. The staff are very friendly. La Franche pression and an interesting local cremant. Great value and I would recommend - best to reserve as it's very popular.

Central Arbois serving good value local cuisine. Basic room but friendly service. I had coq au vin jaune with morilles at 14 Euro and that include a (small) glass of vin jaune. A nice dish.

We came in on a sunny night in beginning of april. Our hotel had booked for us and we were given the best table in the restaurant. By a glass wall with a perfect view to the river than runs virtually 2 meters below us. So the setting was absolutely perfect.So was the dinner and the wine. I had pressed artichaux with a salad and a lovely dressing for a starter. And a wonderful trout with greens and risotto for main dish. My wife had snails for a starter and duck for main. We had a wonderful (quiet expensive - but absolutely first class) redwine from a local producer. Simple a wonderful meal.We will definately go there again next time in Arbois

As last year we had dinner here for our wedding anniversary, this time my husband reserved for my bday dinner.I have high confidence that whatever they propose and whatever you choose is something prepared in the kitchen instead of just taking some industrial ingredients from the box and heat them in a microwave. This is the main reason why we choose to eat here.This time I had chosen Menu Carte, nothing composed so you have to choose on your own, here is my choice and I love everything I eat:Entrée: Caviar d'aubergine à l'huile de basilic, moules de bouchot marinières, émulsion au curry. It was delicious and the caviar d'aubergine "melted" in my mouth!Main course: Fillet de boeuf (it was supposed to be côtelette d'agneau français, but they ran out of it), tomate cÅur de bÅuf au chèvre de Céline Nicole, courgette grillée et frites maison.They used slow cooking for fillet de boeuf. The meat was very tender without any blood dripping out when I sliced the pieces. The "frites" was not french fries but small potatoes. Loved them!Dessert: Nems au chocolat amer servis tièdes, sorbet litchis, caramel onctueux aux graines de sésame et huile de curry. Which was the same dessert I took last year, nothing beats nems au choco and the sorbet litchis is a mortal combination to it!My husband chose Menu Découverte for â¬45 (without wine):Entrée number 1: Tartare de bÅuf charolais minute, pain châtaigne toasté, tuile de Comté. I tasted the "tuile de Comté" -> 7th heaven if you already a Comté lover! I swear heaven should taste like this!! Lol..Entrée number 2: same as my entréeMain course: Saint-Jacques et homard (they were serving "homard" = lobster in replacement to rascasse (a type of fish) poêlés because they ran out of this), sauce homard et Vin Jaune, ratte pochée au laurier et girolles. I tasted a slice of the lobster in the bowl, sweet taste will invade your mouth!Selection fromage: he took (and I tasted small pieces of these cheeses) Comté 14 month, Bleu d'Auvergne, CÅur de Neufchâtel (Normandie), Chèvre Martiniquais (with a hint of cinnamon in the middle), Chèvre Frais au Bruschetta & Ãpoisses.Dessert: Barre abricot du Bergeron sur chutney fruits secs, glace confiture de lait. Should be the dessert of choice if you're full but still wanted to have a dessert.We stayed there for 3 hours, the ambience was good as it was before. They didn't serve outdoor (last time we ate in the balcony). This time everyone was eating indoor due to chilly wind since the afternoon.Note: if you want to eat here it's best to book in advance. Someone arrived before us, she was asking for a table (dunno for how many) but the waiter said no because they were already full booked for the night.

The salad consisted of lettuce, tomato and walnuts with a choice of cheese cubes or toasties. The dressing was so acidic you couldn't eat anything it was covering which was most of the salad. Salad is more than lettuce. My father ordered a steak, a week later he is still chewing it. Don't bother going.

There is a European tradition of families going out for Sunday Afternoon Dinner. We arrived in Arbois just before noon, and frankly we were heading to another restaurant. They were full. Caveau would be too, but they were kind enough to squeeze us in-just. In half an hour they were completely packed-perhaps 90 or so jovial folks, mostly families and a few visitors. I had the impression we were the only people there for the first time. The one waitress and one waiter were amazing. Food was coming out of the kitchen and going to the right tables with military precision, and still good natured grace.My wife started with foie gras and I with a trout pate, marinated and macerated trout and a little green salad. Both dishes were competent if not extraordinary. We both had magret de canard, and the duck was very nicely prepared. Fromage blanc for dessert was exceptional. We tried a Jura Red Wine for the first time, a Trousseau-served chilled. Burgundy has nothing to worry about. We will zero in on their more famous Vin Jaune next time.All in all, a very friendly, successful and good value restaurant. There is some culinary flair, but this is the type of informal family restaurant that brings people back time after time.

We ate here twice during our week-long stay in Arbois, giving it the benefit of the doubt after our first visit. Each time we came away thinking the menu choice was good as was the food when it eventually arrived. 35 minutes of waiting for the first course to arrive should not happen. And the staff don't seem to understand the value of smiling, especially a couple of the waitresses.

After my dinner at the Chapeau Rouge Dijon, my wife and I were salivating at the prospect of another Michelin-starred restaurant on our trip. Alas, we were slightly disappointed.The decor signalled fine-dining the second you stood outside the door.Inside, clearly, the chef was technically able: artisanal plates to contain the food, professionally-executed plating, the mandatory foam, small portions so you can try more food, and interesting combinations of food. The thing is that a few months later (sorry, should have sent this earlier), and I can recall closing my eyes for Dijon but not for this. In fact, if not for the photos, I would not have recalled going there.How might the place improve? I remember feeling a rather cold ambience in the dining room and I wonder if that played a part. Perhaps some interior redesigning to inject warmth to the place. Also perhaps some way to cut up the room to inject some privacy. The dining hall I was in was such that everybody could see everybody. Perfect for James Bond/Inspector Closeau perhaps but not me.
