Find out what Fast Food restaurants to try in Sandown. Sandown is a seaside resort town and civil parish on the southeast coast of the Isle of Wight, England, which neighbours the town of Shanklin to the south, with the village of Lake in between the two settlements. Sandown Bay is the name of the bay off the English Channel which both towns share, and it is notable for its long stretch of easily accessible golden sandy beach. It is the site of the lost Sandown Castle. Whilst undergoing construction, this was attacked by a French force which had fought its way over Culver Down from Whitecliff Bay, resulting in the French being repulsed. It was built too far into the sea and constantly suffered erosion, until now reduced to a pile of rocks. Later forts in the town include the Diamond Fort (named after its plan), built inshore to replace the castle and which fought off a minor attack from privateers (probably French) in 1788, and the present "Granite Fort" at Yaverland, which is now the zoo. Together with Shanklin, Sandown forms a built up area of 21,374 inhabitants.

This little beachside pitstop is a lifesaver. We stopped by for an ice cold Slush on the way through from Culver Point to Sundown Pier. There is such an array of slush flavours to choose from you will have trouble deciding. On the way back we were looking for a more substantial snack and decided to go for their burgers with fries and then '99' ice creams for dessert. The burgers were substantial and very tasty, made to order so fresh and juicy. The staff were very engaging and friendly. There is more seating to the side of and behind the shack closer to the Sands Beach Hotel, that affords a better position away from the busy road. This will be our place of choice for fast food in Sundown from now on...
Staying just up the road, we decided not to cook one evening and ordered our food on our way from the beachfront. The donner kebab with chips, chicken pieces with chips, pizza and kiddies nuggets with chips were tasty and well cooked. The staff were polite and friendly and we did not have too long to wait for our food. Prices were very reasonable as well and definitely worth a visit.

Top quality food, generous portions, brilliant customer service and reasonable prices. This takeaway exceeded all our expectations. Large car park at the rear. They do not offer a delivery service. We won't go anywhere else for Chinese food. Banana or pineapple fritter 'a must' if can find the room for it.

Eat in or take away, friendly family run traditional fish and chip shop.
I am not a fussy eater and I genuinely can't remember the last time I threw food away. But the fat they cook stuff in here is what you could politely describe as 'an acquired taste'. By that I mean that if you enjoy the taste of dirty socks, this is the place for you. The food tasted like the fat hadn't been changed since 1974. It was truly inedible and I'm afraid to say I had to bin it because it was so foul. Such a shame! But if you like your food to be golden brown and crisp this is not the place for you.

Salty Willy's Fish Shack sells a range of locally caught fish fillets in buns, as well as fish goujons and seasoned potato bites. We pride ourselves in using fresh, sustainable Isle of Wight produce.
One of my friends had found this place but hadn't tried so we went together with another couple of friends and my daughter. When we arrived we giggled at the name of the shack and were welcomed by the owners who clearly liked the reaction their chosen name gave to customers. Already we felt at ease. Each choice on the menu looked delightful and at reasonable prices. 3 of us had prawns in a brioche bun (2 non spicy and 1 cajun). My daughter had mackerel in a brioche bun. One had scallop balls (I think they were). The salad items were also very fresh. It was also nice to see mayo & dressings from the garlic farm being used. Great to be serving local items with the fresh fish. The fish was fresh, tasty and absolutely perfect. We were absolutely delighted with our choices. My only wish is my daughter and I lived on the island so we could visit regularly. Our friends live there so sure they will be back. We definitely will visit next time we go over.Thank you What a lovely review - thank you so much! You're exactly right about the name of our business, it really is a talking/giggling point It was so lovely to meet you all & we're so happy that you enjoyed your 'Shack experience'! We're really proud of the Island and all it's fantastic produce, so we want to use as much of it as we can. We do hope to be able to welcome you back to our Shack soon.
