I first heard about this place thirty plus (30+) years ago and have tried their subs multiple times over multiple yearsâ¦AND STILLâ¦I just donât get it. I guess you had to grow up in Kearny to understand the âmystiqueâ of this place, which is average at best. To start with (or maybe we should end here) the entire place is in need of a cleaning. Yes, itâs old and dated, but that doesnât have to mean sullied. Moreover, I find certain items â namely, the tuna fish salad that people have raved about -- to be almost inedible. Itâs more like a âtuna soupâ if you could imagine being such a thingâ¦I kid you not! Like most of their subs, they fall apart while eating...bread is entirely too soft and wilts if not prominently held while eating.Iâve heard by many that they are the âpredecessorâ to American Hero (AH), which if true, means they definitely âupped their gameâ when opening AH in Lyndhurst. If you have been to both, you know exactly what I mean. If youâve been to neither, pass on Big-Stoshâs and head over to AH in Lyndhurst where the subs are worth the trip.

A small restaurant that serves Brazilian style burgers and other foods. The restaurantâs menu is in Brazilian Portuguese, English and Spanish, but our waitress had a bit of trouble understanding us when we spoke English. Overall, the restaurantâs decor is simple, and clearly converted from another use, but it is bright and welcoming. The mirrors on the walls make the space seem larger, and when we went many of the tables were already taken. I had the burger tudo which was excellent. We shared fries that were crisp and tasty. We also shared a queso empanada.

We only went there because it had excellent reviews already and they didnât prove false. The pizza, gluten-free for me, was fantastic, the sort that is only occcasionally found where the pieces can be picked up and eaten by hand because theyâre crispy. It was flavoursome and very good value for money too.A special word for the staff, two of whom separately had a chat with us to make us welcome.Would we go back? Too right we would!
