After a drive through fields ( on the road!) and woods you wind your way to the restaurant coupled with the traditional cheese making unit and may be greeted by roaming donkeysThe cows we passed in an adjacent field turned out to be the suppliers of the milk for the various cheese dishes on offer in the restaurant and are milked in the fields. A wide choice of traditional mountain style dishes all made on site, varied choice of wines, drinks and desserts.Charming if basic restaurant, a great place to visit and with lots of mountain walks ideal for an afternoon following a well priced lunch in the restaurant

Wonderful place to totally and absolutely get away from it all- stars, total peace apart from distant cowbells- no electricity, candles and wood burning stoves and the flicker of the fondue pots, with a very friendly team. Oh- and the cutest and friendliest pet donkeys in the world :). Can't wait to go back during the day for the amazing views and a great walk before our next meal there. Thanks Norbert and team, we will definitely be back.

Step across the threshold and the first thing you'll notice is the kitschy decor: Plastic tablecloths, light paneling, and one too many tchotchkes. But when you open the menu and catch sight of some rather exotic specialties...frogs legs, escargots...one starts to think "we're not in Kansas anymore." And, we're not. We're on the Lac de Joux in the Jura region of Switzerland, a stone's throw from the border with France. While, personally, we're not ones to venture into the likes of edible toads and snails, one dining companion did choose the beef tartar and declared it "exquisite." He remarked that the meat was clearly hand chopped - the mark of a serious chef - and was accompanied by a dish of frites that we all dipped into. While I enjoyed a lovely saffron risotto, my husband tucked into a "rôsti" [a kind of big Swiss hash brown] and entrecôte. Again, the rôsti was freshly homemade and the meat was far more generous than the 180g noted on the menu. And he finished every morsel of both. Even the salad that accompanied each plate was creatively composed, garnished with a lychee nut and a slice of passion fruit. Desserts included a "myrtle" mousse [with what looked like two slices of toasted croissant sprinkled with powdered sugar] and creme brûlée - both could not have been better. Restaurant du Lac is a proud family operation, with a warm, cozy, unpretentious feel and a commitment to serving high quality, thoughtfully prepared dishes. If you wonder into the Jura, you should make time for a visit - because, our experience aside, according to the man at the neighboring table, "the frogs legs are divine."

Four of us plus two little children had lunch here, combined with a visit to Jurapark afterwards. The service was friendly and pleasant, but not much good can be said of the rest. The place is rather canteen-like, but the prices are top restaurant level: a bison fillet costs CHF 49! This is served with a commercial out-of-the-packet sauce and mediocre gratin. I had a bison terrine with crudités to start with, which was rather uninteresting. Then a goodly portion of carpaccio of bison. This was actually not bad, although at CHF 46 it's hardly good value. However on returning home I was violently ill and confined to the bathroom for some little while, a result no doubt of the carpaccio (my wife had the terrine and the bison fillet and was OK) or its salad accompaniments and unhygienic kitchen conditions. We had two starters, four main courses, one dessert, a 'pichet' (½ litre) of very ordinary plonk and two coffees. The total bill for four of us (the children did not eat) amounted to CHF 220 which was something of a shock. For a place in the mountains with pretty indifferent cooking this is pretty scandalous. And when I paid the bill I had no idea at that time that I had been poisoned!Never again!
Situated on the main commercial street of Vallorbe, this restaurant offers an outstanding pizza (most likely other dishes as well, but those were not tried on this visit). Thin, crispy, and topped with excellent ingredients - the Chrizo pizza was delightful as they slice the sausage thin and put it on like [American style] pepperoni before baking so it's cooked and crisp. Staff is friendly and engaging, making visitors feel welcome and cared for. Highly recommended if visiting Vallorbe.

We were a group of 9 hungry hikers which just came back from a long walk (6 Hours) all of them not expecting haute cuisine. Starting with drinks we were already glad to find a very fast and friendly service. Then we started with a salad which was fresh and well in taste. As we ordered a lot of different meals we thought we would have to wait some time and asked us if the quality would be reasonable. We were all surprised by the quality and the freshness of our meals. This is really a location to come again and try something more.

The restaurant has two parts, a formal restaurant with white tablecloths and a less formal part, which is located at the front part. when we were there, we chose to sit in the front part, a good choice because locals came in to have a coffee or eat a bit and they also took place in this part of the establishment. In the back, formal part, it was really really quiet, only one couple was dining there. The menu might be a bit less extensive, but the atmosphere is really great in the front. We had a good dinner and the waitress was friendly. The risotto was great, which is quite an art.

I had booked a place for my family for motherâs day. When we arrived we were almost immediately seated and had, despite the short-term reservation, a fairly nice place. The service was very pleasant and also the food is definitely worth going there. The wonderful thing of this restaurant is that it can be used as a starting or ending point for a visit of the nearby stalactite caves of Grotte de Vallorbe. After having taken our order the waiter served us a nice small appetiser to our aperitif. Two of us had ordered the classic Tartare which is actually prepared manually and prior to be served the waiter serves you a small sample to see if the tartar is as you would like it. One person had the Croute Morille, a Swiss dish served in a ceramic pan which is baked bread with several ingredients over it (a little bit like a heavy hot breakfast), and in this case served with morels â excellent, for sure. The dessert we had, a moelleux au chocolat, is a warm, inside still liquid, chocolate cake â was of excellent taste as well. Definitely worth a visit, and donât forget to do the stalactite caves.
