I had some really nice local German food here. Freshly cooked, nicely presented and nicely traditional. Even better than the food however is the owner with his witty positiveness and absolute dedication to good service. It's a pity the place draws a bit dull crowd, because it really deserves to be noticed.

When you think about all the little villages in Germany and all the little restaurants that they contain, you might not expect much in these out of the way places. But many of those places are worth a visit, and this is one of them. If you ever find your way to Hemmerde (just East of Westhemmerde . . . ; / ) be sure to visit the Post. It's just a little place in a historical "Fachwerk" house, family run, and the food is excellent. Despite the size of the place, the menu is extensive. One of the things I love about Germany is their wonderful sauces, and you can have various cuts of meat with pepper, mushroom, béarnaise or other sauces. It's located in a beautiful little village, and since you are (way!) away from the city the prices are really attractive. A real treat, we always go when we are in the vicinity.

La Bodega is without doubt my favourite local restaurant in the Unna, Menden, Foendenberg area.We both really enjoy Tapas and were delighted to discover La Bodega. The restuarant is split into two halves and after some 10+ visits we have never ventured out of the small, relaxing front section surrounded by wine bottles and only a few tables. Our experience is the service is warm, friendly filled with personality and humour, the food is delicious from the ridiculously good bread and aioli dip WOW and we never have visited without at least a requested for a second bowl. The menu is varied and there is truly something for everyone, in my case the Patatas Canarious and the spicy dip mmmmmmm.Of course man cannot live by food alone so sitting surrounded by so many delicous wines gives plenty to enjoy and for those who prefer beer there is of course Estrella. So far we have taken 4 German friends, 6 English family members and 1 American business visitor there with us, each and every one has loved the place.Or advice go and enjoy, experience a great evening out in Unna.

I revisited Haus Mersmann with the same friends, and again ordered the house specialty â the schnitzel. This time I ordered the usual schnitzel with grilled onions, and asked for Jaeger Sauce (dark gravy with mushrooms) on the side, which was an excellent addition. The salads were fresh, varied and tasty. The accompanying pommes frites were properly done, American-style and ketchup was provided without sniggering when requested. I also had an appetizer bowl of very good tomato soup, served with thinly sliced rye. The only glitch was no butter for the rye bread slices, the explanation being that the only butter was Krauter butter (already seasoned with herbs). Otherwise, it was enjoyable and a very satisfying dinner experience.

Switch off. Enjoy. To be a guest. Upscale gastronomy, for everyone and woman. In the middle of Unna. Nice atmosphere with great service
Absolut empfehlenswert.

We were guests at the wedding of a very dear friend in Holzwickede, and adjourned to Unna for the wedding party supper. Alimentari is small, home-like and cozy. The appetizers were voluminous and delicious, pickled onions, Parma ham, prosciutto, melon, lox, shrimp, artichokes, u.s.w.; the fish course was superb, and the main course (small pieces of filet with an almost sweet red wine sauce) was over the top. The wines were excellent, and the hospitality was without equal. The owners and wait staff treated everyone like family, and it was truly as though we had stopped by a friendâs for a late dinner. If again in Unna, I will certainly be back to Alimentari.

My husband, two children and I had dinner at Olckenturm with my husband's German colleague and his wife. We were greeted in both German and English by the young waitress, who also gave us English menus and helped to explain the dishes. Initially we were seated outdoors, which was pleasant, though the bugs were a nuisance. However, we moved indoors as a thunderstorm settled in. The restaurant is actually built into part of the old city wall, which was pretty cool. It was not very busy (we were there on a weeknight), and we had very attentive service. Our dinners were all fairly traditional German meals--quite heavy, and a bit saltier than we prefer. More vegetables and some lighter options would have been nice, but I suspect on a cold winter's night, this fare would really hit the spot! All in all, a good experience.
