Rang beforehand and booked a table for two. On arrival we were seated at a table right next to the door, the till and the wine fridge. In the first 5 minutes we had the door constantly opening and closing which was freezing, someone leaving waved their hair and coat over our table knocking cutlery flying and my husband was asked to move twice so staff could get in the fridge. Asked to move and got a more than frosty response from the lady owner who insisted no tables available despite being half empty. Thankfully the young waitress suggested a table on the balcony could be cleaned for us and we were moved. Ordered a nice red wine but not available nor was our second choice so opted for Prosecco. It was vile!! Very cheap and nasty tasting so we left most of it as it was so acidic it was stomach churning. And then there was the food. Veg calzone crust was so hard I couldn’t cut into it. Swapped to a sharp knife and when I did get it open it almost empty and absolutely no taste. Hubbys funghi pizza was burnt black and the same rock hard dough. Worst of all it was all so bland! For an Italian restaurant to serve food with no trace of garlic, basil or even oregano something has gone very wrong. I have given one star as the young girls serving were very nice and were constantly apologising for the owners attitude. Won’t be going back.

We were celebrating my partners birthday and we were treated like kings! The cocktails were made with pure class and tasted amazing, the service was exceptional both at the bar and in the restaurant! We had the Camembert and the seafood chowder to start which were both excellent, full of flavour and cooked to perfection. Then we had steak on a stone! This is such a treat, the meat was stunning the sides were delicious and all together made for an unforgettable evening. Thanks to the staff working on the 14th you really made this a night to remember. We will definitely return.Nick and Carl

Great place for fish and chips. Always busy but food is excellent. They have a take away at the side of the restaurant and this time we also used this and I can say the food is the same excellent quality. We have had lovely, white chunky cod here. Well worth a visit when you are in Whitby.

Lovely food but so slow to deliver ,had drunk our bottle of wine before we got the fourth course ! 3 hours altogether Dear farmeggs, Thank you for taking the time to review us. We would have loved to know what you thought about our food. We're sorry that the tasting menu took too long for you, we do explain when booking that we ask people to arrive between 7pm & 7:30pm and people usually leave 9:45pm - 10pm. Perhaps any of our other services, lunch and dinner, where we serve a la carte would have been more suitable. Kind regards, Bridge Cottage

We had dinner at Madmoiselles this evening. We knew the ambience would be stylish and expected the food to be good but we were not prepared for just how good. The staff were friendly but not overpowering and they showed their knowledge of the menu. There were three pages of gin! These included Harbinger which is gorgeous! The food was excellent. Well cooked and well presented. For starters, we chose salmon mousse and smoked salmon on fennel and with a light dressing and the beetroot and goats cheese risotto. Both light and tasty. For the main course I had beef bourgignon which was rich and deep with a beautifully reduced sauce , served with creamy mash. Nick had hake, pan fried and served with shellfish and ratatouille. For dessert I had raspberry crepe brûlée and he had rhubarb frangipane with pistachio ice cream. The portions were perfect. We didn’t leave the table feeling too full. Looking forward to our next visit which I hope will be soon.
