We found this place through a TripAdvisor recommendation and, WOW, it was right on. We ended up eating of having tea here about 4-5 times in a six day stay!! The atmosphere of the old town location was absolutely amazing! We found the food at the nearby second location (especially breakfast) fantastic! My next stay will be at the old town location as the have three rooms to rent.

The Puppet Western Restaurant has been in operations since 1997. We serve pizzas, pasta, soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers. Our yak burgers and pizzas are our top-selling items. We also offer clean and simple accommodations in terms of dormitory beds
I had a yak burger since others had raved about it. I wasn't disappointed, the meat was tender and the sauce in the bun divine. It came with chips which tasted homemade. The menu is extensive though - there's something for everyone and they have a pretty good selection of local beers.Staff were friendly - especially the manager who talks about the area with passion and is very informative. Other staff members didn't seem to have much English but the menu is well written in both Chinese and English so it's easy to point if you need to.It's not the best meal I've ever eaten but the value is good - average for western standard food in Shangri la. I'd highly recommend this place.Dear Muppet333,Thank you for your review. We are glad our yak burger didn't disappoint you. Our staff is currently undergoing English training and we hope that in the near future they'll be confident enough to speak up and interact with foreign customer. All the very best to you.Dorothy L
