Reviews on European food in San Francisco, California, United States. Each of San Francisco's unique neighborhoods has its own collective personality shaped by its residents, topography and history. This diversity is one of the great hallmarks of the city, as well as its tradition for rebellion, and both make traversing San Francisco as a visitor an intriguing adventure that provides fresh discoveries for locals as well. While half of the city’s growth during the 19th century was due to the arrival of American immigrants, the balance was due to immigration from around the world. Today, the city's neighborhoods reflect this fact with their cosmopolitan flair and distinctive character.

Our roots are Mediterranean and northern France In origin, where authenticity is key. So our menu is seasonal, inspired by our personal family recipes, and the bountiful northern California farmers markets. Our mission is to focus on esoteric French wines
We lucked into this French bistro style restaurant during Santa Con a few years ago. Very authentic and very pleasant. The place is "cozy" and bustling. The staff were very efficient, enjoyable recommendations. Food (mushroom soup, asparagus, duck) were all great and a finish of stone-fruit poached in a mint syrup with a glass of Sauterne hit the spot.

Finding Germsn food that reminds me of my time in Germany is not easy but Leopolds is up to the challenge. The spaetzle was perfect and the Jaegerschnitzel was delicious!

Zazie is a small neighborhood bistro in a historic building in Cole Valley, near the upper Haight and UCSF with a gorgeous well heated garden patio. We are famous for our American style brunch, served seven days/ week, but dinner is the hidden gem- countr
We met up with our son while visiting SF at Zazie. The waiter was exceptional, just enough attention and very specific advice on our questions about the meal choices. The details are what set this place apart. I ordered lemonade and received a glass of ice about half full of freshly squeezed lemon juice and then a bottle of simple syrup to make the drink to my taste. It was awesome. I had the crab benedict and was so happy with it. The crab was fresh, plentiful and full of flavor and everything around it was done perfectly, with just enough seasoning as to not distract from the flavor of the crab. The other meals were just as well executed and the details well thought out. Definitely worth the wait which was minimal for the time we came.

I've lived in this neighborhood for many years but did not get a chance to experience this restaurant until now. It's a very small and intimate dining place and the few times we attempted to walk in without a reservation, it was full with a line waiting. We were surprised by our luck in getting a table immediately this time. It did help that we came very late (after 8pm) and on a Wednesday night. The waiter was extremely attentive, our orders and food came promptly. The ceasar salad with fresh dungenness crab was a delight, very well-seasoned and the crab tasted as fresh as it can be.We opted for 2 pasta dishes, both were very deep in flavor and balanced. The short-rib stuffed raviolis were tender and tasty. The parppadelle tasted home-made with a complex mushroom wild-boar ragu. We were very full but couldn't pass up the warm chocolate cake with hazelnut ice-cream. The cake was perfectly moist, gooey and rich in chocolate flavor, accompanied by a very subtle and smooth ice cream. We were very content with the meal and superbe service

Jeanne D'Arc is an elegant yet reasonably priced French restaurant located near Nob Hill and Union Square in the Cornell Hotel de France. Replete with tapestries, stained glass and artifacts, the decor celebrates the life and deeds of France's legendary h
My in-laws used to go here often. It was my first time. The decor is fun and well done. It looks like it fits the time of Joan of Arc. The service was friendly and quick. The menu changes daily and there are many choices. The made a nice vegetable plate for my vegetarian wife that was not on the menu. Everyone was served cream of vegetable soup. Fantastic San Francisco sour dough bread. Appetizer choices were salads or escargot which was excellent if you like such things. Entrees choices were sole, rabbit, two duck choices, rack of lamb (three ribs) and a couple of beef options. Everyone was very pleased with dinner. Moat of our party of 5 had the grand mariner shuffle for dessert which was excellent. The decor might be seen by some as over done but we found the entire experience charming.Dear David,Glad you found your "entire experience charming" at our restaurant Jeanne d'Arc.Thank you very much for a nice description of our menu and a generous five- starrating. We hope to have the pleasure to welcome you....soon.Warm regards

French bistro fare & a varied wine list star in a cozy, colorful space.
L'Ardoise (chalkboard in French) is on a quiet street, a few blocks away from the heart of the castro. The food is classic French food- cooked classically without any gimmicks or twists. Coq au Vin, Cassoulet, Onion soup -all are cooked perfectly. The service was also wonderful. The waiters are quite knowledgeable and are very on the spot without being intrusive. If you're looking for top-notch CLASSIC French food, this is the place for you. If you're looking for modern twists or the latest fafd, this is not the place. EVERYTHING is cooked and prepared according to classic French cooking. I highly recommend this restaurant to everybody.

From the minute you walk in the smells tell you something good is happening in the kitchen. Seating is tight but you get past it quickly, service is friendly and thoughtful and having the owner welcome you is a nice touch. Worth the trip from Downtown. It can get loud so if you have anything important to say you should save it for a break in the noise. Definitely goâitâs delicious!
