We made the 4+ hour drive from Caen to the Les Epesses region to go to Puys du Fou the next day, and made an advance booking after having found this restaurant (being the only Bib Gourmand selection) in the Michelin Guide. What a treat awaited us! The backdrop was spectacular - lush grass and vineyards stretching as far as the eye could see. The wines were so inexpensive it was like buying from a convenience store (but obviously 100 times the quality - we're talking Loire Valley wines after all). The food? We had the escargots (hands down the best escargots I have ever had), the pigeon and the veal. Just unbelievably divine and scrumptious. My wife literally had a look of rapture on her face over dessert. I'm not really a dessert person, until I found out that they had put a mango jelly in the parfait she was eating. And that essentially sums up this restaurant - they make heavenly food with the simplest of ingredients. Service was warm and sincere, which we have come to expect from the finest of the "local" restaurants in France. And of course, this being a Bib Gourmand restaurant, you are paying peanuts - just more icing on the cake. The absolute gastronomic highlight (and there were a number of them) of the trip.
