Had dinner on first night with my wife in the small restaurant. Had champagne in front of fire in huge armchairs along with tasty canapés.Interesting and reasonably priced wine list, extensive good value Bordeaux. We had a steely Macon Villages to accompany a delicate crab dish which was delicious. We then had the tenderest and tasty duck with wine sauce and berry reductionsWe shared a cheese course which was well kept and generous in size, with good accompaniments.Dessert was milk, coffee and chocolate, variations on chocolate. Very goodNice petit fours and tea were served in front of the fire in one of the Lounges. A really well executed and skilfully prepares meal. The restaurant has two AA rosettes, and no mention at Bib Gourmand or any other level in Michelin. Bemusing, this was a very good meal and if this is representative of their output then there should be more recognition for this chef and restaurant. On the second evening 18 of us had dinner in a beautiful wood panelled dining room. It was a set menu, shrimp and langoustine soup, delicious. For mains we had 14 hour roast lamb from the estate. Huge portions and delectable. Beautiful vegetables, carrots, red cabbage, greens and dauphinois potatoes. Spot on. Dessert was panacotta with Apple and some slightly odd flavoured ice cream and chocolate bits. This meal was fabulous, but much more rustic than the previous evenings restaurant delivery, but so tasty and fitting for the event. A lovely moist and very chocolatey cake was delivered to end the meal with coffees etc. Throughout the meal we had magnums of white and red Bordeaux, followed by many glasses of port and whisky which were excellent. The host remarked to me how pleased he was by the wines etc as they were carefully chosen by Nico and excellent value whilst suiting the food and being delicious. We ended the evening in the library helping ourselves to the honesty bar. A great end to a great couple of nights stay and dinners.Canât believe this is not a better known hotel and restaurant, really good

Four and Twenty is one of those restaurants that you might pass by unless someone you knew directed or took you there. Lucky for us someone did. While visiting Penrith we had the great fortune to go to this lovely boutique restaurant. A small menu yes, but completely adequate and well thought out. It would be useless to suggest a dish because the menu changes often, but everyone was pleased with their meal. The wine list is also small but adequate to the task and overall very reasonable. The staff is also very engaging and their attention and goodhearted humor is part of the experience. I can confidently recommend this gem to anyone.

Delicious home cooked meals using locally sourced quality ingredients, daily changing specials, all day breakfasts, fresh home-baked scones, cakes and teacakes, sweet treats, milkshakes, fruit smoothies, and the very best Lavazza coffee.
We were really glad that we just managed to find a table on a busy Friday lunch time, as the food was very good. Portion sizes good and quality excellent. Service was good but a bit slow due to the amount of folk ordering at the same time but it was definitely worth the small delay.
