We were in the Newark area and went here to celebrate a birthday. First, the place is not imposing from the outside, you will feel as if you are sitting in a cafe, restaurant in Portugal, maybe in Lisbon. Everyone around you is speaking Portuguese. The food is good, and portions are generous, but it is not outstanding. The location is not glamorous, service is friendly, bread is wonderful, food maybe a tad over salted. The desserts go for the Flan it is delicious.

This place has the best food. I really like the Shrimp in Garlic. This is really only shrimp, garlic and olive oil. The best as an appetizer. Then I get the shrimp in wine sauce. A great dish that comes out sizzling. Highly recommended.

Greetings,PortuCale Restaurant is a family owned and run restaurant serving authentic regional Portuguese food. We believe in using the highest quality products, fresh, local and seasonal. We serve great wines, and coffee. Our food is made with love, just
Second time visiting here. Really enjoy the local vibe (although seems like more and more folks are discovering!). Bar area was filled with fans cheering on their soccer team, but the dining room was comfortable and quiet. Great service. Food is fresh and good. Easy to walk to Prudential Center for shows. Servings are generous! Highly recommend the Tres Leches cake and flan, both delicious.

My sister lives in Portugal so I have been able to try a good deal of Portuguese food in restaurants there. This place has a wonderful old world feel, is sparklingly clean, and has a diverse real Portuguese menu. There also a dedicated parking lot right outside in an apparently very safe neighborhood. We had among us seafood, chicken, steak, salad, rice, Portuguese soup - all with a nice flavorful touch - and some wonderful vino verde - young green wine - all at very fair prices. We chatted with the owner and had an orange cake dessert made by his wife. All unhurried; all with willing, helpful service. The only thing missing was my sister - still in Portugal.

Spanish Tapas Restaurant in the heart of the Ironbound. We have a full liquor license. We have one of the largest selections of vegetarian tapas in the neighborhood. Our Flamenco shows during the Fall and Spring season are a big hit. Our main entrees, yes
I visited this place for a flamenco show. The show was spectacular, the food absolutely delicious. I had the grilled octopus. I love the ambiance, the staff was very tentative. I will definitely go back

Had a long leisurely lunch with an old colleague. I had one of the lunch specials, the Paella Valencia. Very good. Lots of seafood, Spanish sausage and a half of a lobster tail. Huge portions. Plan on leaving with a doggie bag. The bread was delicious. Excellent service. On site parking lot. Accessibility ramp. The only negative thing that I can say, if it is a negative--they wouldn't let me package my own leftovers. Said that it was't allowed. This is the first time that I have encountered this. I prefer to put my leftovers in the container myself. They were nice about it though. They didn't rush us and let us stay as long as we wanted. I definitely would go again. It's worth a visit.

Had pre concert drinks and Tapas on Saturday early evening. Place has great atmosphere feels very European and owner is very nice guy. Tapas is really good, very authentic and no frills. Had patatas bravas, octopus, chorizo, croquettes and cheeses. All simple and tasty. Highly recommended

The Portuguese cuisine was expensive and average considering what one can find in Newark Iron Bond. To make the experience even worse after lunch with my spouse, is that I was charged a mandatory 15% tip without my authorization. I confronted the waiter who had nothing to say. I sent an instant message to their Facebook page. No response whatsoever.

First off, nice ambiance and a great wine list! It is loaded with a fabulous selection of Spanish wines. Pleasantly surprised. Lots of options on the menu. We started off with some clams to share that were really flavorful and perfectly done. For our entrees we ordered a paella and suckling pig. Both huge portions but both also dry...very dry. Was expecting better. Expensive.I'm glad you appreciated our extensive wine list. It's wonderful you enjoyed the clams as well. As for the entrees, I'm sorry you weren't as impressed there. I look forward to the next opportunity we get to earn another star or two from you.Sincerely,Andres, Manager

We routinely have our holiday party here as it is convenient and reasonable priced per person. I always order the black bean soup as a starter as it is really good. I am also a big fan of the paella. The sangria is top notch and they host a lot of holiday parties. If you are looking to have a large party down neck, this is a great choice.
