The welcome was warm in the so-called gastronomic restaurant, in the sit-down side. Nice fireplace and cool dear heads. Service average, not very professional, like not having the wine tasted or fresh wine glasses. Hwever the real problem was the obviously stressed-out boss yell at the waitress in the dining room in front of the client. How unprofessional! The food was ok, croute au fromage and steak, nothing to write home about. Not sure we will come back. BTW the WC smelled!!!!!

We made a reservation for 19:30, it was almost empty when we arrived, but by the time we finished our dinner it was full, so I would recomend to make a reservation. The food and wine were delicious. The staff spoke english and were very helpfull.I recomend it.

Everywhere else was fully booked on Saturday night and this place was suspiciously empty so I wasn't expecting much. However our food was pretty good - both husband and myself had a very reasonably priced 3 course menu. Nothing spectacular but not bad either.Service however was a bit hit or miss, with two young girls who seemed to be a bit overstretched. When we were paying our bill - which had taken about 15 minutes to arrange - the server got shouted away by the chef to deliver a meal and we had to wait a further 10 minutes.

If you visit Serre Chevalier, you must book an evening at this extremely genuine French restaurant. The owner and staff are wonderfully nice. They present the entire menu orally to all guests and the charm is huge. You pick your own wine and open with the opener at their table. There is everything from the French food and a lot of the ingredients are local. Everything tastes great and here is everything you want in French cuisine. Terrains of different kinds seem to be a specialty. Steak Tartar, Grilled Chicken, Fois Gras, Snails, Wonderful Desserts such as Tarte Tatin, Rhubarb Pie, Chocolate Fondant, Chocolate Mousse. They also had Lamm that night with lenses. It was an experience to eat here and I really recommend this cozy restaurant that has few tables and you have to book before. This restaurant also only takes cash, not cards.//Mats Samaras, Stockholm, Sweden

Warm friendly atmosphere and discreetly mountain dweller. A meeting place for a greedy clientele, in a style relaxed around glass cups and the other one stink in cast iron.
we have been going to this restauranrt for 10+ years. for a while it was out of this world when Stephane Froideveau and his wife ran it. After they left it reverted to being decent food with a good atmosphere. our last meal there, however, was a disaster. of the eight courses that we had between us non was edible. the bread needed a jackhammer to break open. the chilled mousse to start was frozen solid, the mushroom veloute smelled and tasted of cat food, the seignant steak was burn to a crisp, the fish had clearly expired a long time ago, was covered in an inedible crust and sat on a bed of a curious substance that was unidentifiable (something between potato and polenta). When all this was pointed out to the wiater his response was "its not my fault". while technically true it was not really a satisfactory response. i got the impression that there was an inexperienced chef in the kitchen armed with a lot of pre- prepared frozen meals and a microwave. unfortunately he had yet to master the microwave - which would have explained the rock solid breadrolls, stil frozen mousse and incinerated steak. i hope it gets its act togethe quickly.

We went on the recommendation of a local travel agent. The restaurant aspires to be a fine dining experience. However, the food was initially served cold and on unheated plates. We complained. Our plates were removed without any apology: it was almost as if they were used to this. When our plates were returned, the food had simply been reheated. Again, no apology was offered and coupled with total disinterest from the staff. In short, total indifference. That could not have cared less.On the plus side, at least the wine was good. But, this is far from the quality of food and service that is fine dining.

La Cagette is slightly off the beaten path in Le Monetier - les Bains, but easy enough to find.We had lunch there - as the only guests - and it was fabulous. Modern decor, attractive menu and wine list. Food is very good and significantly above the usual - rich - Alpine fare.Excellent value for money and friendly service. Will return.

In summer or winter, never once have i been disappointed by the food. Fine dining as you wouldn't expect in this tiny village, for a very affordable price. The chef is outstanding!
