Reviews on European food in Helensburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom. Helensburgh (/ˈhɛlənzbrə/; Scottish Gaelic: Baile Eilidh, lit. 'town (or burgh) of Helen') is a town within the Helensburgh and Lomond Area of Argyll and Bute Council, Scotland. It also has its own Community Council. Until local government reorganisation in 1996 Helensburgh was in Dumbarton District and hence also in Strathclyde Region; prior to 1975 it was a small burgh with its own town council within Dunbartonshire. In the Middle Ages it was within the Earldom of Lennox, an area sometimes referred to as The Lennox. It lies on the north shore of the Firth of Clyde and the mouth of the Gareloch is close to the western boundary of the town.

We had drinks in here on a recent visit to Helensburgh and thoroughly enjoyed the ambience of the place! My husband and me remembered it as "the Imperial Hotel" back in the 70's when he was still in the Royal Navy... what a transformation! A very calm, interesting and peaceful venue - especially remembering the days of the "old Imps"! The staff were very helpful and the menu looked to be very good - I'm sure we'd have stayed to sample the food had not the grandchildren had their hearts set on fish suppers! We're so happy to have brought those fond memories! Thank you for your visit. We're bringing the hotel back soon so hopefully we'll see you again, maybe this time you'll stay with us for a night :)

We visited recently for Sunday lunch. The staff were all welcoming and very helpful - accommodating our two year old with no hassle whatsoever. Food was delicious - my husband particularly enjoyed his game casserole. I loved the ice-cream at the end, really tasted homemade (not sure if it was, but it tasted that way!).Beautiful grounds and a very well-kept property inside. Big bonus was the beautiful and gentle Border Collie, Rosie, whom we all enjoyed making a fuss of - if you're not a dog person, don't worry, she is very well behaved and wouldn't approach you I don't think.

La Jupe is a French Wine Bar. So unsurprisingly we do specialise in French wines, but also hold lines of our current crushes from other countries! We aim to help demystify the French wine world a little, by offering clear advice on what's good, what's int
Love the bar, choice of drinks, the assiettes, the banter but really struggle with the service.Even when it is quiet, there always appears to be at least 3 staff on but they are too busy talking to each other to notice that you are ready for another round or that you have finished eating and plates can be lifted. Not sure if it is an agreed strategy by the boss not to hastle customers but it doesn't work in my opinion and just leaves the customer frustrated.Really very sorry to hear youâve experienced poor service Graeme. I will take this back to the staff and ensure they take your feedback on board.Best RegardsLa Jupe

Good Food in a relaxed atmosphere. Great ambience for family gatherings or romantic evenings.
We visited The Upper Crust for the first time last week having booked a table for dinner with my cousin. The restaurant could easily be missed as it is up a narrow alleyway just of the Helensburgh sea front. The restaurant is a former bakery and is quaintly decorated with the former ovens being a focal point. As the holiday season is not yet in full swing we had the place to ourselves and benefitted from the attention of the chef as well the waitress who was attentive without being intrusive. The starters were varied but we all plumped for the Scallops with Charley Barleys Stornoway black pudding which is a favourite of ours and they didnât disappoint. Main courses ranged from Rib-eye steak, to braised beef and pan fried trout. The steak was succulent and tender and a large 9oz but could have benefitted from some mushrooms. The helpings were generous and the food was delicious although the presentation wasnât fine dining but itâs the taste that counts ! The background music became a bit monotonous after a while although the chef was happy to turn the music off. The sweets included sticky toffee pudding, chocolate tarte and pavlova and all were home made and delicious. There are a variety of reasonably priced wines to suit most tastes. We will certainly return and I have no doubt booking will be essential in high season.

Sugar Boat: a friendly, neighbourhood bistro, bar and wine shop at 30 Colquhoun Square in Helensburgh. Approximately 40 minutes by train directly from Glasgow.
Another annual visit to The Sugar Boat and it was as good as ever! A very engaging and helpful host; a very flavoursome and high quality meal for 4. It will definitely remain on the âmust-doâ list for next year. In particular, we opted for the Serrano ham as a shared starter - really tasty. All four main courses were a huge success - beef, burger, cod and stone bass. The only suggestion on desserts would be to provide some more options for guests with nut allergies. Overall, Iâm so delighted that this place is going strong and I really hope it will continue for years to come! Please visit and give them your custom - Iâm sure you wonât regret it!!

I hadnât come across drunken goatâs cheese before, but evidently the name refers to the process of marinating the rind. There were three of us, and we ordered tapas for two, which proved to be ample for a light lunch. There was good vegetarian choice and friendly efficient staff â and right on the sea front.

First time visit and it was buzzing. With a varied menu that is slightly weighted towards seafood there is something for everyone. Our party had both the seafood and the meat options, and all of us were very impressed with the meals prepared for us. Well cooked, well presented and incredibly tasty. Will certainly return when next in the area, and would recommend it to anyone.

went on Wednesday evening which does have 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £30 but decided on the a la carte menu. Prawns in chili and garlic to start, lamb schwarma main course and dark chocolate salted caramel tart to finish. I truly cannot remember the last time I enjoyed all 3 courses at a restaurant in one evening like this. Friendly chatty staff as well and good wine and beer selection. Well done Riverhill we will be back!
