Find out what European restaurants to try in Fribourg. Fribourg (French pronunciation: [fʁibuʁ]; Arpitan: Fribôrg or Friboua, pronounced [fʁibwa] ( listen)) or Freiburg (German, or Freiburg im Üechtland, Swiss German pronunciation: [ˈfrib̥ʊrɡ]; Italian: Friborgo or Friburgo; Romansh: Friburg) is the capital of the Swiss canton of Fribourg and the district La Sarine. It is located on both sides of the river Saane/Sarine, on the Swiss Plateau, and is a major economic, administrative and educational center on the cultural border between German and French Switzerland (Romandy). Its Old City, one of the best-maintained in Switzerland, sits on a small rocky hill above the valley of the Sarine.

Original products coming directly from Italy (real bufala cheese, diffent types of ham, rucola, olive oil, wine. etc.), an excellent pasta with the correct leavening (it means that it does not leaven in your stomach afterwards...), and a warm and welcoming atmosphere by the owner: these are the perfect ingredients for a true Italian pizza!! The place is not too big, but nice and cosy, and prices are reasonable too. Absolutely to try!!

Rue de Lausanne, late at night. At the juncture of the medieval city and the city center, a cozy glow from a built sse atypical illuminates the cobbles of its warm golden color. We perceive through the weightlessness of the mist, noise, laughter and heate
Here you can find the best quality/price brunch in town and probably also the longest drink list of Fribourg, with a many of the good italian Baladin craft beers, a lot of bottles from all over the world and also a good choice of wines and spirits. The staff is young, nice and informal as the overall atmosphere. I like a lot also the furniture. Stop by for a home made cold tea in a hot saturday afternoon, or for a beer after dinner, for a brunch of for lunch (I still haven't tried they're hambugers though).Merci beaucoup pour vos commentaires élogieux.En espérant que vous reviendrez goûter nos burgers faits maison , avec le pain et la viande préparés par nos artisans locaux .... A business dinner with colleagues can be made or broken by a restaurantâs experience. The meal at Bindella was the one element that added value to an otherwise jejune business dinner with platitudinous and obsequious colleagues. The fried calamari dish was well done and crispy. The beef carpaccio with black truffle shavings really tasty. One is to commend the waiters for excellent service and pleasant handling. Will come back. Merci!Dear Mishapiano,What a wonderful review for us to read, thank you so much! It's great to hear you had such an excellent dinner at Ristorante Bindella Fribourg and were so satisfied with our service and our authentic Italian cuisine. Our goal is to offer our guests a perfect experience from the service to food.We are very glad you and your colleagues enjoyed the time at our restaurant in the heart of Fribourg's old town and we are already looking forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Hopefully, we will be seeing you soon.la vita è bella - Adrian & Ristorante-Bindella-Team

The evening we went had a special menu for St Nicholas (Soirée du Père Fouettard), a five course event for 92CHF plus wine. We were sat at the end of a table with 8 others from another party: not ideal but not a problem either. The atmosphere was relaxed and good with a DJ playing music at a volume which is not disruptive at all.The menu was well designed and the food cooked and presented very well. The only flat spot being that the poached egg in the coup was still cool having been pre-cooked earler in the day and not warmed up enough. However the taset was excellent. The wine list is not overwhelming and all wines served are available by the glass. Judging from one example where I know the retail price, the mark up is 2.5 to 3 which is on the low end by Swiss standards.Service was really very good. All look to be students. All in all an excellent eveninng . We will definitely be back.A word to the wise: parking will be a problem if Fri-Son next door is open with a popular event. We had no problem as it had not yet opened when we arrived..

I've not generally been impressed by Swiss cuisine, but Cafe Gothard is an exception. We went with two versions of the traditional roesti; the Gruerien and the Valaisan, both of which were excellent. The Valasian, with tomatoes and raclette cheese was a bit more plain, but the tomatoes really helped cut the richness of the cheese and buttery potatoes. That said, I preferred the Gruerien since it comes with speck (bacon lardons) and onions, but without the tomatoes to cut it, the richness is strong. The restaurant itself isn't huge, so reservations or eating early are advisable. Service was friendly, but this seems to be a predominately French-speaking town, and only one of the servers spoke english. That said, we didn't have any trouble getting by in pidgin French and a bit of English, so don't let that scare you off. Overall probably the best Swiss food I've had in four different trips to Switzerland, and if you're in the area it is definitely worth visiting!

Very well situated in the city this Michelin star restaurant always serve great food, good service done by Denis and other team members, always a nice word from the chef and the business lunch menu is very well served for a reasonable price. Wine list large and also some wines by the glass and the maitre d'hotel will tell you what to take. A must in Fribourg!

LA CÃNE Your fine dining restaurant in the heart of Fribourg. More than 600 wines on the list, smoking lounge, great cocktail bar.
We went with high expectations. The place is much bigger than we had realised. We had the surprise menu. The presentation was excellent as was the service. The cooking, however, was not very imaginative and two of the courses were almost cold. The wine prices are typical for Switzerland and I admit to disliking paying CHF85 for a bottle I can buy for CHF22. Others have said La Cène is the finest restaurant in Fribourg. I respectfully submit it is nowhere close to being in the same league as Ayer or Trois Tours. I doubt we will be back.

Yesterday was Monday. On Mondays most restaurants about Fribourg are closed, so I had to make do with McDonald's. It wasn't too bad. Today I decided to treat myself, so I made a reservation at the RdHdV which is mentioned favourably in the Michelin red guide and is ranked the second best restaurant in Fribourg by Trip advisor. It started well, I was seated at an excelent table on the lovely balcony and my Campari Soda arrived promptly (though without a lemon). From here everything went downhill. I could analyse the food in length but it would be simply throwing my pearls at the pigs. Sufice it to say that both my plates were simply, plainly and definitely bad. They were crowded with various bad looking and bad tasting stuff. The choice of the stuff on the plate made neither rhyme nor reason. The ingredients were all second rate and the whole assemblage was precooked and warmed before serving, probabely in a microwave oven. Nothing, but nothing, tasted anything but foul. Since they had no half bottles of wine I drank wine by the glass. There was practicely no choice and both wines I had were bad. On my way back I passed the McDonald's where I dined yesterday. Today I payed ten times more, yesterday I enjoyed it ten times more. How is 1:100 for price quality ratio? Never mind, there are and will be bad restaurants, but how can so many people eat such bad food and then attest in writing that it was excelent?

We ate lunch in the garden and what a treat it was. Big tables, well spaced (although the cigar smoke from our neighbours was not great), comfortable chairs. Good service, nice bread selection. Then came the food. Foie gras with black rice - fantastic; giant prawns with ginger - lovely; veal and lobster - luxury; quail with foie gras - sumptuous. Great sharing plate of deserts, coffee and more sweets. Great wine list, inc. half bottles. Not cheap by any stretch of the imagination but very well worth it. We will return.

French bistronomy by chef Franck Chouette. Le Beausite is a historic restaurant with early 20th century architecture.
Very refreshing to be welcomed by people who are happy to work. Have been visiting a friend in Fribourg and discovered this unique place where food was simply delicious. Had a drink at the lounge located in the balcony before our dinner, the view on the place was superb from upstairs with a very creative barman. Try the fish backed in salt crust!Thank you very much for your review. Looking forward to welcoming you again.
