The menu is limited (mainly Dutch pancakes) and is very good. The problem for me was the length of time it took to cook. I didnât think it was particularly busy, but we nearly gave up. Will give it another go to see if we were just unlucky on this occasion.

Seasonally changing menu using local ingredients whenever possible. Daily changing Specials' Board and lighterbites at lunchtime.
We dropped in here early on a Friday evening after the cafes around the market square had closed for the day. We were after a simple cup of coffee, and they were able to quickly oblige, good value for money, with a cheaper rate if you have a 2nd cup, which was a nice touch. We had a scan of the menu, the food is a bit more expensive than other local rival pubs in town, and the dining room area is maybe a bit more formal, but there were a good range of main course offerings in the £15-20 range. This was a former coaching horse inn, a handy stopover heading north from York in the olden days, and this probably accounts for the rambling layout. It is a hotel with bedrooms available. A good bar with a range of well kept real ales, and the front seating area was starting to fill up with early evening diners ordering food and having a quiet drink before going into the dining area. The dessert options looked quite tempting, and there was a gentle hubbub of conversation, it had a welcoming atmosphere and the staff were polite, efficient, and smartly turned out. If we had more time, we would maybe have eaten here, but it was a handily placed stop for a cup of coffee before heading back home to West Yorkshire.Thank you, David, for your review. We are pleased you enjoyed your time in The George. For clarification, only two of our main courses are over £15.00.

Restaurant serving British and European dishes Tuesday to Saturday 5pm - 9pm and a traditional Sunday Carvery 12 noon - 6pm
We went to try the new pub in the village. I was dining with a friend and didn't want to cause a fuss and so didn't complain. However we didn't eat our meals, my lamb was raw and my friends meal was awful. I sadly cannot recommend this place. I would return for a drink, but would not eat here again. We are sad to read your comments. If you were unhappy with your meals you really should have pointed it out on the day. It's not causing a fuss. We would have preferred that we could have had the opportunity to discuss your complaint.Regards from Team Station

We visited after enjoying sledging at nearby Terrington. We had soup and a sandwich, coffees and sweet pancakes. Fantastic food (homemade and very tasty) with great service and really friendly owners. It was snowy on our visit but looks like a great place to come back to in the Spring with a wildlife garden and craft courses. It will make an excellent stop on our bike rides in the area and would definitely recommend.

A thoroughly enjoyable meal as always, but feel the staff should be appropriately dressed. I donât think wearing denim jeans is appropriate. One of the staff smelt strongly of cigarettes, which I hate.Ditch the plastic straws!
